teaching jobson LI....help

I teach in Brooklyn, (4th grade) but am searching for a job on Long Island and am having very little luck. I have been on a few interviews, but they all say that they won't be making any decisions until after budgets. Since budgets are coming up this week I am hoping that I hear about some more rounds of interviews. Does anyone have any advice as to what administrators are looking for. I feel like if you are not confident and they want that they don't move on with you or the opposite. If you are too confident and that is not what they are looking for then you don't move on.

Hey don't get discouraged. I teach music in bay shore and right now everyone is very worried about the budget vote. So many districts last year had to cut programs and increase class sizes because their budgets failed.
More than anything interivewers are looking for someone who is passionate about what they do. Good answers to questions include saying that you will always make contact with parents, being a team player, not being afraid to ask for help, and knowing that teaching has become a bigger job because kids have more issues they face now. Character education is a big deal these days. Look that up on the internet if you don't know about it. It's all about building morals in children becuase they are not getting it at home.

Unfortunately the reality with LI jobs is sometimes they already know who they want to hire and call people in for interviews as a formality. So if you think you had a kickass interview and didn't get the job it's probably because of that. But no matter what keep trying. It took me awhile too.

Good Luck

Don't be discouraged. Districts have different time lines for when current staff has to notify whether they intend to return in September, and budget considerations (voting this week)... that all factors in to when a district will actually be able to make a definite offer to hire new staff.

It's so hard to have to wait, but many teachers do not receive a job offer til August. I know that stinks.

But the fact that you have experience is definitely in your favor. Did they ask you to do a demo lesson?

Good luck!

I noticed there were hardly any teaching jobs in the NY Times today I thnk you are right about the budget thing. I always see a lot closer to the end of the school year and even during the summer.
Just be enthusiastic and offer to do extra things like after-school programs, etc.
It's crazy how hard it is to get a teaching job on LI!
Good luck
