Teaching positions

My sister is certified elementary ed and just finished her masters is special ed.

Anyone know of any openings? She's working at a day care now and can't stand it so she's looking for a way out.

Someone help please!

So hard for people to find teaching jobs on Long Island right now. FH and so many of my friends are among them. Sucks.

is she trying nyc??? schools are allowed to hire new teachers if they have special ed licensing - the freeze will probably be lifted before the end of the month (Hopefully sooner).

unfortunatly the deadline for applications in the city was june. She'd have to try again for next year.

Her best bet now because the summer is over and school is almost in full swing is to go to districts personally and hand in her resume. Be sure she dresses in a suit and just spend a day driving around. I know so many people that got a job that way.

I know I got my position by started as a sub and moving my way up- I feel thats the best way to do it. The pay is horrible at first but its worth it when you work your way up.

I hope this helped- best of luck to your sister!

If you want a job in nyc you have to be proactive. You can't just apply to the DOE. You have to send resumes directly to principals/schools or go through teachers who are already in the system. My principal hired two new special ed teachers this summer who were not perviously in the system.

Totally agree with you! This is exactly how I got my job 6 years ago.. Find the schools you want in NYC and fax your resume directly to the principal. All school info can be found on NYCDOE website. GOOD LUCK!

and going through the NYCDOE job applicant pool will get your NOWHERE...you need to show up at the schools with your resume dressed for an interview, regardless of an appointment. my principal only hires from resumes they get...never through the system.
