If you want the opportunity to teach K-12, besides the LAST, which which writing assessment test do you take? I know there is also a CST. I assume you have the opportunity to take more than one type of CST test- but do you need to take special courses for each subject. Any clarifications will be sooo helpful. Thanks.

Re: Teaching Questions
You also have to take the ATS-w, unless that has changed in the last 2 years. You generally need a degree in education, plus the tests to get state certified. Whatever subject you want to teach is what you must take the CST for. I took the elementary ed CST. But they go by subject for other areas. NOt sure if I helped answer your question, hope it helped.

Re: Teaching Questions
it depends on your certification area as to which tests to take... im certified K-12 in Art...i only had to take the ATS-W and the LAST... however other certifications that are K-12 have other tests that have to be taken...

Re: Teaching Questions
You also need to take the ATS-W....then after that you take the CST...if you are elementary ed certified then you take the one in El. Ed. (usually this is done after you have some experience teaching)

Re: Teaching Questions
Thanks for your help. Pretty much the LAST, ATW-S and the CST is what you need to get certified. If you want the opportunity to teach highschool besides elementary you need to pick a specialized field, right?
Also, it looks like Hunter College requires you to take the LAST prior to applying- is this correct? TIA

i dont know about your hunter college question, but as far as teaching HS, there are a few certifications that are k-12. Subjects like art, phys ed, music, special ed... those subjects can be k-12... if you want to teach english, math, science, foreign lang, social studies, etc, you need a specialized certification, that is usually 7-12 (and with a few additional courses can be 5-12) HTH!

I went to Hunter and got my El. Ed. degree there, and I did not have to take the LAST before I was accepted....however, things may have changed since then ( I graduated in 2000)
