teaching resume

teaching resume

Ok girls so I know this is not wedding related but I know a lot of you are teachers so I figured I would ask for input. I graduated with my masters in January 2007. I am currently working as a Kindergarten teacher BUT it is only a .5 position and it is not tenure track. I obviously would like a full time position for the fall. I am in the process of updating my resume and I am struggling on some things. Any helpful suggestions to my questions would be WONDERFUL! If it isn't too much of an inconvenience either...if anyone has any great resume formats that they want to FM...I would love you forever! I feel like I finally have the experience and education to get a full time position and I want to do whatever I can to stand out. Thank you so much in advance for your help!!!!!!

1. Should my education still come first even though I have more experience (an actual teaching position)? Should experience come first now?

2. Should I have an objective?

3. Is it still necessary to list my student teaching experiences?

At the moment, my resume is 2 pages and I feel like it needs to be condensed!

Re: teaching resume

i have always had an objective, even though i think it's kind of implied what it is... TO GET A JOB!

having two pages for your resume is great! i have heard that its taboo for anyone else besides teachers, but its fine for us. (i guess its because we're 2X as great! jk)

i have taken out my student teaching experience now, because i have had over 2 years of 'real' experience, and before that was really all i had to go by.

as for the order, i always did education before experience.

haha it might just be easier to FM you what i have!

Re: teaching resume

Hello! I recently graduated with my bachelor's degree in Secondary English Ed. from Stony Brook. I received help with my resume from professors there. From what I have learned, 2 pages is ok. Mine is 2 pages. Experience should go first but I would include student teaching as well. My objective is to obtain an English teaching position in an accredited high school or middle school. This is just what I have learned from some very helpful professors. I hope this helps!

Did you list your student teaching experiences separately or as one chunk?

Ok, so the funny thing is that I told you to put experience before education yet on my resume, my education is first. Everyone else is right on that one. Sorry!

Re: teaching resume

hmm my school has a resume help service and when I emailed them my resume and they told me maked sure its not more then 1 page. I dont know because I feel like it really depends on whos reading it. Multiple people have told em that schools dont look at resumes if they are over a page but im not sure if that is tru or not. I am having the same problem as I get more experience I am finding it hard to keep it to one page and have to start taking things out. So im not really sure on this one????

let me send you mine when i get home. I had mine done by a professor in college and i love it...

If you are looking forfull time i would state your objective 'to obtain a full time teaching position in your school'

this way they know what you are looking for

2. No. I dont have an objective. I was told that you put your 'objective' in your cover letter. I put that word in quotes because I was also told not to write the word objective... instead write it without actually labeling it.

3. Include student teaching definitely!

4. I was also put through a resume workshop and was told that 2 pages is 100% fine!

Good luck its a jungle out there... Im in it !!
