tell me I'm not alone

tell me I'm not alone

I really thought I would love this whole process and be super excited, but I really don't even want to deal with any of it. I've only been engaged a month and already I am so sick of it all. I don't have an RH or a date and I just don't care. I just am not into the whole big wedding thing and I'm really only doing it for my parents and FH. I don't think I can do this for a whole year though I don't even want to talk about it with my own mother who is so excited. Please tell me I'm not a freak.

You're not. And there's going to be a thousand more times where you feel exactly like this. Once you find a hall and book a date, you're going to get excited about it again, I promise! If it's really burning you out though, take a break!!! I know you feel like everything is rush rush rush (and this site doesn't help!) but go at your own pace! Good luck!

Once you book your major vendors you can relax. even if you don't get allt he major ones just force yourself to find a hall and a dj, everything else can fall into place later. But food and music are the most important things at a party.

your not alone. if you feel overwhelmed, take a step back. no one says you have to get married right away. take your time picking things out.
once your ready, look at a few places and se what you like. once your ready, it'll seem exciting for you.

if you still feel this way months from now, talk to your FH about having a much smaller, more intimate ceremony/reception - that might make things calmer for you.

as you can see...you're not alone!

I have flucuations...some days i'm super excited to plan; other days i can't even be bothered. There are times when i don't want to talk wedding plans with people because that seems to be all they ask-how are your plans coming along...some days i like to talk about it; but not in every conversation! I understand. there will be a time when the desire to book a hall or dj hits you and then you'll get excited!

I think this is normal. It is very stressful and overwhelming; especially if you have a million people giving you their opinions and your trying ot make everyone happy. I felt like this after 2 weeks and started taking everything out on FH; even to the point where I was like why are we even getting married? Then I stepped back and calmed down. We did things slowly, and when we found the RH we loved, it was like a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. Now a month after booking RH we are looking into photographers and DJ's.

Take it slow, and do what makes you happy. Take some time to let the engagement sink it and enjoy it

You're not alone. A lot of girls feel like this at times. However, if you really aren't into having a big wedding maybe you should talk to your FH and mom about possibly having a smaller gathering. My parents have gone to weddings where the couple has a really nice dinner at a restaurant after the wedding with about 20 people. Maybe you could do something similar.

Re: tell me I'm not alone

I never wanted a traditional wedding .... i always wanted to have a destination wedding somewhere for $10k or less. but FH and our families want a big wedding so i'm doing it mostly for them.

i still have days where i feel like this is such a waste of time and money but for the most part, i'm very excited about everything and am happy.

if you want to talk about anything, please feel free to FM me ...

This is what I really want, but that idea went over about as well as a fart in church.

Re: tell me I'm not alone

Thank you all so much for the responses. I feel like I come on here and everyone is so excited and I'm just like 'eh whatever'. The worst part is that I have to take it slow since I live in Oregon. I can't even come home to look at RHs until the summer. I'm also stressed because I'm defending my PhD dissertation at the end of March, and no one seems to care about that they only care about the wedding. I think I'm going to instate a wedding 'time out' until after that and then maybe I can get more excited about it.

Thank you all so much again. You have no idea how nice it is to hear that you all go through similar things and that its just a phase.
