You know the red post mark stamp on all the mail? They go through a machine. If you hand cancel, you put that stamp on by hand

Re: Tell me what
correct me if I am wrong, but i think it makes it look neater...and neater is nice when you have spent six thousand dollars on the paper you are sending. (sorry-feeling dramatic today Peanut!)

Exactly -- it basically keeps all those ugly black marks off your invites too so that they arrive in guests mailbox looking almost exactly the way they left your hands.

And does that add some sort of personal touch to the envelope that invitees may notice? Will they willingly do this for you at the PO?

Re: Tell me what
The only 'personal touch' is that when it goes through the machine it could get a little messed up b/c they are kind of thick. Like Jimmy'sBride said, you also don't get any black lines.
Some PO will do it for you, some you do it yourself, some charge you.

Some brides on here have experienced problems at some post offices where they claim they don't do it, or they want to charge.
This service should be free and they should be willing to do it. I did mine at the Mineola post office and it was no problem there.
