Tell me what to do in Bethesda, MD!

We're going to Bethesda, MD Laabor Day weekend for FH's cousin's wedding. We're staying at the Hyatt Regency. The wedding is sunday night, but we're going to drive in on sunday and leave on monday. Any ideas on what to do? Also, how far is it from Busch Gardens, VA? Maybe while we're down ther were can drive to VA for 2 days on monday (we can take a day off)....I dunno. Help me out. I heard there's a zoo. Also, it's close to the DC sights too, right? What are the 'can't miss' things?

You'll be very close to DC. If you want to goto the zoo, The National Zoo is right in DC, its great, my FI took me there for my birthday.

I love Bethesda. Where's the wedding? My Matron OH's DH grew up there.

I forget, do you like Tori Amos? She grew up there, and went to high school there. I saw her old church, house, and HS, because my Mom's friend was Tori's Youth Group advisor.

Anyway, there's a great restaurant down there called the Melting Pot. It's a chain, there just aren't any in NY. It's a fondue place. GREAT food, VERY pricey. But IMO it's worth it.

You're RIGHT near DC while you're there. About an hour before you get there, you'll drive through Baltimore. Baltimore's Harbor is TOTALLY AWESOME. I highly recommend it.

And just for the record, about two hours before you get there (1 hr before Baltimore), you'll drive by my apartment in Delaware. If you would like a tip on Delaware Toll evasion, let me know.

hey! i actually live in bethesda (well north bethesda) but there is a TON to do! beware, labor day weekend is HOT and muggy ( i swear i dont remember NY summers being like this!)

bethesda is great, there are a TON of restuarants and bars (bethesda actually has more restaurants per capita than any other city in the country. And, you can take the metro to go to downtown DC. Beware if you want to go the zoo, by that time of summer it is usually very hot with a TON of kids...kids = ice cream and candy etc everywhere= alot of bees. also the 'zoo' metro stop is deceptively far from the zoo!!

you can also take the metro to the smithsonian stop and from there you can walk around and see so many monuments and go to the museums (all smithsonians are free!!!)

at night i can def suggest many a bar in bethesda depending on the atmosphere you are looking for.

busch gardens though is quite far, most ppl i know if they are going down there, they stay over bceause it
can be a areally long day other wise

ETA: the Hyatt is right on top of the metro so you can get to the city really easily!!

Thanks so much for the tips. This si the insider info I need. We're not really into bars, fun or romantic restaraunts yes! The wedding is at a temple, I don't have the name yet, I just booked the hyatt b/c that's what the STD said and I asked the MOG and she said there would be pre and post wedding events there, so we figured that would be the easiest. I ddin't realize we were going to drive through baltimore. I'm going to have to stop there for old time's sake on the way down. I went to camp in baltimore (at JHU), and every year the harbor trip was the big highlight. Thanks for the tip about the zoo. I'm sure it'll be crowded everywhere i go being labor day weekend, but at least the museums are air conditioned
