I didn't really see a Temple Thread, but was wondering if any other Jewish brides are getting married at a Temple. We're getting married at a Temple in NJ and love it... it's a late wedding though. Not starting till 8:30 (sundown)

We're getting married at a temple as well. I was weary about it when we were looking, but I LOVE it!

Re: Temple...
Hey babe, You can probably help me with this - what's the diff between a Rabbi and a Cantor?
I'm a bit confused. Both are able to perform ceremonies right? I always thought that a Cantor is usually hired b/c he sings more...that's probably wrong though... help

I think you're right... we're only having a rabbi, but I guess someone could have a cantor also to sing the prayers. I'm so bad... I'm reform... my FH is a much better Jew than me. I'm lucky I fell in love with a Jewish guy b/c I used to tell my mom I'm not gonna marry one. Now look... LOL

Re: Temple...
I think most cantors are able to perform the ceremonies (I believe there is some sort of certification). We are using a cantor.

Re: Temple...
im not having my ceremony at a temple, but we did think about it, and finally decided to have it at the RH location.
Rabbi: Has to complete a minimum of 4 years of college and a minimum of 5-6 years and also one year in Israel, especially to develop a relationship with Israel and familiarity with Hebrew as a living language. He is often a spiritual counselor, a university faculty member, and a civic leader
Cantor: the cantor is primarily a chanter, reader, and leader of the synagogue. The cantor usually has a good voice, knows all kinds of Jewish melodies, and sometimes trains and/or directs a choir. Often, as much as the rabbi, the cantor sets the tone for a synagogue. Most cantors, however, do much more than lead the congregation in prayer. They teach in the synagogue's religious school and prepare boys and girls for Bar/Bat mitzvah.

Re: Temple...
We're getting married at a temple. Not how I pictured my wedding a few years ago, but the temples in NY are so beautiful and are made for weddings, not like the ones in Boston. I'm actually really excited and love the idea of being married in a synagogue!

We are getting married in a temple as well. We weren't sure we wanted it there, but once we saw it, it was it! Great new thread to start, there is another, but I find it gets stale after a while, and you need a new one sometimes! :)
