Just wondering. I am very superstitious, Fh and I wanted the first time we see each other on our wedding day to be when I walk down the aisle. However, our Rabbi would like us to meet in his office with the bridal party and our parents to sign the ketubah. Also to do a blessing. I know this is an old Jewish tradition from Jacob and Rachel. However, I never been to a temple wedding and just wonder if it takes away? My Rabbi said what ever I feel comfortable with he will do. I know my brother got married this year and they saw each other before the ceremony. I just felt like something was missing with that.
I guess my question is do you think it is superstitiously to see each other before in the Rabbi's office?

Re: Temple Ceremony ?
No, it's totally normal. You'll probably see eachother before that, though, to do pictures. Talk to your photographer about catching that moment when your FH first sees you when you walk out to do pics.

Re: Temple Ceremony ?
for jewish weddings the bride and groom see eachother beforehand to sign the ketubah and for the bedeken.
whether or not you're taking pictures before, that's up to you and your photographer

Re: Temple Ceremony ?
a lot of people are seeing each other beforehand to do pictures these days, and they all seem to say that not only did it not take away, but that in fact it was better because they weren't so nervous when they were walking down the aisle.
Also, in terms of superstition, the whole tradition stems from the time of arranged marriages, not really anything more spiritual - it certainly would be bad luck if the groom saw his bride-to-be for the first time on the day of the wedding and decided she was too hideous to stare at for the rest of his life and called off the wedding! I really wouldn't worry about it.
plus, it is Jewish tradition to do it that way - I'm pretty sure all those thousands of years of Jewish marriages can't have had such complete bad luck.

Re: Temple Ceremony ?
We saw each other before and we took all of our formal pics before. Best thing.
We have some great pics of the signing of the ketubah. It was very special.

Re: Temple Ceremony ?
If you just tell the Rabbi you and your FH are not seeing eachother before the ceremony, I don't think it would be a problem. The rabbi I am using said it is common.
I was (and still am) so against seeing my FH before I walk down the ailse, but it works better in so many ways if we see eachother before hand. We can enjoy the cocktail hour and say hello to our guests, we can take photos, and like everyone else said signing the ketubah is such a beautiful photo and memory.

Re: Temple Ceremony ?
No one in my family has ever not signed the Ketubah before the ceremony, and all the marriages are going strong.
