I was thinking about a tent wedding because I can customize the look more. I think it might be a nice compromise since I want a modern venue. However, my FH is afraid of bad weather. Has anyone ever been to a tent wedding on a rainy day? Is it muggy or hot? Did it leak? How was it in general?

Re: Tent weddings
I had an outdoor garden wedding with the ceremony in the gardens and the reception in a tent. Luckily, it didn't rain on our big day. However, they do have tents with technology panels that shields from the rain. It might cost more but if you're worried, that would be your best bet. We had that for our wedding but it wasn't necessary which end up adding more cost to our rentals. I don't think rain would be a problem unless it was a storm. We had such an amazing time having our reception in a tent. Everyone had a blast. It's such an incredible feeling b/c it creates that intimate and romantic setting with the voltaire and lighting and CP's everywhere esp if you do branch CP's. I would highly recommend doing a tent wedding if that is what your heart is set on. It's so different from having a wedding indoors. If you're an outdoor person like me, you'll love it.

Hey, check out Woodbury Country Club. They have an outdoor area for cocktail hour. It is tented already, so you wouldn't have to pay for tent rental.

Re: Tent weddings
My ceremony and reception was in a tent. Pictures in album or review. If we had bad weather I have no idea what we would have done. It was a huge gamble, and there was a MAJOR storm the next day. That being said, we got lucky, and it was great. While tent rental is a cost, I think you can decorate more simply. There was another 'o8, Hamptons Bride, who was also in a tent. We also went with a band that was mostly acoustic. FWW, while my venue was not perfect, they do have a fabulous space for tents.
Cute user name BTW!

Re: Tent weddings
My cousin had her reception in a tent in NJ, and it was an amazing wedding. It was nice out in the afternoon so they were able to have their cermeony outside. It actually rained through the reception and there were no problems at all. Honestly with everyone talking and the DJ going I didnt even notice the rain until I left, we couldn't hear it from inside the tent.

Re: Tent weddings
was it muggy? do you know if they used an air conditioner? my biggest fear is the ground getting wet and people ruining shoes or dresses.

Re: Tent weddings
I looked at this idea in the very beginning... it was def more than we could afford... tents alone are pricey... and then to bring in a dancefloor... catering... tables... etc $$$$$
And then we moved onto the idea of having it on a yacht that left out of freeport... but then someone (i forget who) said... just be careful bc if its a storm that day and the ships rocking... people are going to get sea-sick...
so i ditched that idea as well... and thank godddd i did bc it rained ALOT on my wedding day... i was veryyyy thankful we were all inside in a hall

Re: Tent weddings
If I can recall it did not get muggy, and yes the tent did have air conditioning. That day it did rain but the floor within the tent did not get wet or soggy. I mean I guess it all depends how bad of a storm you get.
