that poor lady is pretty much lying there dead. the only thing keeping her there barley is the tube. i think it is so wrong of her family. i know it is hard to let someone go but come on already. enough is enough. let the poor lady rest in peace.

YES...
THe husband won the supreme court decision now so i think they should be stopping the feeding tube soon!

i honestly think its an awful way to die and i think they should figure out a more humane way of doing it. i also feel that since she didnt leave a will how are we to really beleive that her creepy husband is telling the truth. the family put forth evidence that his tormenting her was one of the reasons she had the eating disorder that lead to the seizure.

would YOU want to be left alive like that?
I believe the husband...and think that the family is grasping at air in order to keep her alive!

And although i agree starvation is a horrible way to die...there is no other way unfortunately..euthanasia is illegal

When there is no quality of life, it's time to go! If you compared her past to her present you'd definitely see NO quality of life.

I definitely think they should allow her husband to make his decision. Its got to be hard enough for him to make that decision and then to have the courts stop it. Now he has to go through the painful process of trying to once again convince them to allow him to take her off the feeding tube.

I think its just AWEFUL how long this has been going on. First and foremost, GET THE COURTS OUT OF THIS! Personally, I would NEVER EVER want the Florda court system and Jeb Bush decideing if I should live or die.
Second, my husband knows my wishes, my parents do not...I bet that this is how it is in a lot of relationships.

Re: Terri Shiavo...should she be allowed to die?

I believe that both parties of this family should allow this woman to die.

My father has been in the hospital since Oct. 7(3 months of which were in ICU) with all sorts of medical issues - too many to list. At one point he was on a ventilator, now he is not. He does have a feeding tube but unlike Terry Shiavo, he is semi-responsive. However, he is at the point right now where his vital organs are shutting down. He gets infections now and again that require surgeries.

He never voiced a desire to use (or not to use) extraordinary means to keep him alive. People of his generation rarely do. He will not come home from the hospital and he will not see me get married. Myself and my siblings are making peace with this. My mother cannot. She is just now, at 5 months of him being in the hospital realizing that he is dying yet still refuses to sign a DNR. Should he reach a point of another infection or cardiac arrest he would more than likely not survive without extraordinary means. His quality of life right now is pure existence. On top of all of his ailments, he has Alzheimers Disease. Surely this illness and trauma to his body has allowed this to advance.

Watching someone die a slow death is not easy. I cry every day knowing Dad may be in pain or scared. It is not something I want my family (or my worst enemy) to ever experience. I made my feelings known to FH and will more than likely have a DNR/living will drawn up after we are married. I couldn't put him through this. I would want him to mourn and move on. I realize the Shiavos are dealing with the death of a child and that is perhaps the WORST thing in the world. But she deserves peace. Let her have peace.

Goldi, I am so sorry for you what you are going through

As for Terri, I think that we need to remember that she ahs been like this for 15 years and showing no signs of improvement.

Without her wishes being in writing I am very skeptical of her husband's motives.

I will say this - I would not want to be kept alive artifically. I don't think she will ever recover. However, if that was my daughter I would have a hard time letting go - especially if I questioned Michael Schiavo's motives.

This just in!

Judge extends stay keeping Terri Schiavo's feeding tube in place for 3 weeks - Florida woman has been in a vegetative state for 15 years.

Sad story:

A guy at my job just lost his 4 year old son to brain cancer. He had suffered for the few years he was on this earth, and was on a feeding tube as well. He had already gone blind, and was starting to lose his other senses. From what they told me, it took 12 hours after they removed the tube, for the boy to finally take his last breath. They said that towards the end, he was trying to call out for his 'da da'.... I CANNOT possibly begin to imagine what that family went through. To see someone you love suffering, is just unbearable, let alone it be an innocent child.

Re: Terri Shiavo...should she be allowed to die?

Thanks LilMrs and Ambersmom. Dad is 78 and after working so hard his whole life to give everything he could to his family, I don't think he deserves to spend this time in his life scared and confused and in pain. We really don't even know what he is feeling. He. cannot communicate with us with much more than a nod and that is IF we use the simplest of language. He is in and out of consciousness. He will remain as he is until and unless he either dies in his sleep or needs a surgery. We won't pull a feeding tube. If the doctors ask Mom if she wants to sign a DNR, she may do it this time. We told her that we would support any decision she makes but none of us will force her to do anything. Actually, my oldest sister has health care proxy, but as long as mom is alive and coherent, she would not make any decisions regarding this matter. No matter what happens at this point, I am glad I am not alone.

I just think it's worth mentioning that her 'husband' has a new life and a new family now...

And, apparently, she is NOT in a vegatative state, but she is seriously mentally impaired.
