I just wanted to comment on the terrorist bombing of the Ritz Carlton in Indonesia yesterday. It really scared me because when I was planning our honeymoon, I was considering the Ritz Carlton in Bali as a strong contender. In the end, we booked Hawaii, but now there are questions about North Korea planning to launch missiles on Hawaii. Mexico is very iffy due to the swine flu outbreak there. Its so crazy, I mean where is safe to book? For the girls who are still in the planning stages, especially for your honeymoon, be very aware of what is going on wherever you might be planning on going because the world is a crazy place right now and a not so friendly place sometimes for Americans abroad. Be safe.

Re: Terrorism & Wedding Planning
I've thought about this and while yes it is scary, there is only the possibility that may happened. Sure anything is possible. But if you think about it that way, you will never be able to do anything in your life, worrying about terrorist attacks because it can happen anywhere. I take the subway everyday and it crosses my mind a lot! But, can I alter where I work and how I get there because of fear. Panic and fear is life's biggest fear! Believe me, I do not take this lightly and have to still take strong drugs to fly because of such fears, but I do it.
Again, its everyone's decision, but never let fear limit anyone. Cause it may or may not happen, and you may miss out on an opportunity that is wonderful.

Life is a crap shoot, you have to plow ahead and just go about your normal business. Things can happen anywhere.

This is so true. Originally we wanted to do Cancun but then the swine flu came about. So we started looking into DR but at this point swine flu is everywhere (including someone from my office) so I'm heading back to Cancun! I can catch it just as easily just going to work so I might as well sit on a beach with a drink and catch the same thing! (Though that better not happen! )

Re: Terrorism & Wedding Planning
I agree with both sides of the argument however i think that although we should live our lives not in fear, i think that many people tend to forget that they are not in the comforts of America when they are away and being on a nice resort or in a brand name hotel give them a sense of security that should not be taken as the same as when you are home. Although these things can and very obviously did happen right here in New york, people who mean to cause harm will see an American in another country and see them as an easy target. So, just be aware and remember where you are when you're away.

Please don't rule out Mexico b/c of swine flu!! I went to Rivieria Maya and they said most of the cases were all in Mexico City (which isnt the tourist part of the county). I got back last week and it is totally fine to go there!!
I have to tell you you are at risk anywhere...1) I'm a Queens elementary school teacher and students at my school had it and 2) our flower girl ended up getting it 2 days before the wedding and couldn't come and they live in CT. It's really a matter of practicing healthy habits and if your sick going to the doctor right away. I say this b/c I almost canceled our honeymoon and I am so happy we didn't rush to that conclusion b/c it really was amazing learning all about Mayan culture and relaxing at the wonderful resort!
Be smart and do some research wherever you go but don't just rule out something too quickly without looking into it!

This is a good point. For the longest time Ecuador had no cases, not even one and all of a sudden one person brought it from Miami and then another and now sooo many people have it. My mom works for NYboard of ed and said its/has been in so many schools.
And a good side point is that because everyone is feaking out about it, mexico prob has some really great rates right now!!

Re: Terrorism & Wedding Planning
I live in MEXICO right now and there is NO real swine flu still. We go to the beach and tourist destinations all the time and our fine. In fact, it wasn't until I came home to NY that I got exposed to the swine flu since my dad was working in a nursing home in queens and came down with the flu.
Mexico is safe right now for HM and great prices too! u should still consider it.
Also i dont think you can live your life in fear and panic...just b/c there's a possible nuclear threat doesnt mean you can't go to hawaii. I mean did we all move from NY after 9/11??

Re: Terrorism & Wedding Planning
I'm Israeli and for me it is such not a big deal. It's easier to get hit by a car than to be hurt in a terrorist attack. Their main goal is to deter people from doing, going and living their life. The more attention you give it, and stop urself from going to those places - they win! I don't want to get all political on LIW, so let me just say that this shouldn't be ur main concern when choosing a HM. IMO it's silly and giving in to fear they are trying to install in u. Just be alert and don't take ur safety for granted, which is true about walking around Manhattan as well, so..... well u get the point.
By the way, I had swine flu by getting it at my office. I didn't go anywhere, just to work and got it. Really wouldn't cross out Mexico from my HM list b/c of that.
