I have heard good things about Spice (there are a few all over the city) and Peep in Soho. I love one called Sukkothai on 42nd and 9th - you can sit in these chairs that are on the floor and your legs go into this carved out area- it's alot of fun! Pongsrai Thai is alright (I think a chain too) but not as good as other places.

Rain is really good. They have Thai/Malayasian food... very diverse and very good! Their appetizers are amazing and they have delicious drinks, too! They have two restaurants, one on the east side and one on the west side. I'd say the west side version would be in a better neighborhood to find nightlife...

I forgot about Rain- that IS a good one- I think there's one not too far from Bloomingdales. There's also one called Sea Thai in Brooklyn - I know it's far but I hear it's great. They also filmed some scenes from Sex and the City there. It was the place where Smith met Samantha.

Holy Basil - it's 149 2nd Ave/corner of St. Mark's. The food is amazing, best Thai I've had in the city. If you want a romantic table for 2 ask to sit in front of the fireplace or a larger party can sit upstairs which overlooks 2nd ave.

We like Jai-Ya too! There's one in Flushing and one in NYC-3rd Ave and 28th or 29th.

I haven't been, yet...but have heard that the absolute best Thai in NYC is Sripraphai-in Woodside right near the 61st St. 7 train. Not fancy, BYOB, but supposed to be very good and very authentic.
