For all the married women...and soon to be brides that may know the etiquette. Do you give all your wedding guests a 'Thank You' card although they did not give you a wedding gift? I had a few guests that did not give us a gift, or a wedding card, should we give them a card with our picture??? What does proper etiquette say? What would you do?

Re: 'Thank You' card etiquette
You actually had people show up to the wedding and reception that did not give you a gift?? I find that very RUDE!!!!!! (Unless you knew about it before hand due to a money situation but still... I would not be able to attend someones wedding if I couldn't afford to give them a gift!!!) In my opinion I would not send them a thank you.... unless you just wanted to thank them for sharing your special day with you.

Re: 'Thank You' card etiquette
Guests *technically* have one year to give you a wedding present, so yes send them a thank you.
You can say something like 'thank you for sharing our special day with us'. Also, what if their card got lost? Or something? This would also help to let them know that they didn't get a gift from you (hence no mention of a thank you for a gift).

That is actually a good point. I forgot that they technically have 1 year to give a gift but could you imagine attending a wedding without bringing a gift? I would feel so stupid!!!! I guess I would send one then too thanking them for sharing in your special day.

Re: 'Thank You' card etiquette
That's a tough one.
I would probably send them an informal TY, NOT with a picture (why wast any more money on them), thanking them for attending.
Short and sweet - Dear So & So - Thank you for attending our wedding signed Bride & Groom
How rude to attend a wedding and not give a gift. Have these people been living under a rock all their lives.

I agree and I couldn't stop with living under a rock.
I could never arrive at someone's home without something, let alone a wedding. So rude!

A gift should never be expected but in this case they didn't even bring just a card with their well wishes. I don't know what I would do but FH says he wouldn't send one.

Re: 'Thank You' card etiquette
Thanks for the replies. I didn't know guests had up to one year....good to know! I knew of at least 3 guests that could not afford a gift because of their financial situation and I wasn't expecting anything other than their presence and well wishes, so they're excused. As for the others (it was at least a handful)....DH and I were shocked to say the least!!! I had a lot of relatives from out of state, and country, that made a sacrifice to be there for us, so we will probably send them cards with no picture, just as a 'thanks for being there'. Then I have those guests that could not make it but were thoughtful enough to buy us something....so we have to make sure they have their pic! Hard to believe but I think a lot has to do with culture. Some ppl may feel that their presence alone should be a gift to the couple. Nowadays, I don' t find anything surprising....but I was unsure about the thank you card. Thanks again!!!

Re: 'Thank You' card etiquette
We had more than a few cheapos and the ones who didn't even give us a card are ones we KNOW won't evr because they are the relatives who only look for us when THEY want money>W hats funny is that the king cheapo himself, gave us NOTHING yet invited my parents to his 65th birthday party and told tthem IN THE INVITE that they wanted only CASH or giftcardsfrom the stores of THEIR CHOICE....
IN THE INVITE! I mena talk about tacky...

I think it is so RUDE to not bring a gift.... really... give me a break! I guess i would send them a 'thank you' for attending...so maybe it will give them a clue that they didn't bring a gift. And that whole year thing is ridiculous i think.... who waits a year to give a gift??? If you attended the wedding... bring it to the wedding!!! If someone didn't attend... that is a different story. And if they did attend the wedding and forgot to bring a gift... that should be in the mail or on your door step the next day. But some people are just dumb.

Re: 'Thank You' card etiquette
The one year rule exists but i know it doesn't apply to the 3 losers that didn't give us a gift or card. DH and I are NOT sending them anything. I know these people will never send us the gift they said they'd send, therefore - no thank you card.
If within the next year they actually do send us something - that's when I'll send you a thank you card. For now, since I have nothing from you - you get nothing from me

Re: 'Thank You' card etiquette
IMHO, the OOT guests who traveled in and spent some money to come should get a TY and pic, JMHO, as for the others, just a simple than you for attending will suffice. I will send a TY to every guest. As far as the 1 year rule, I believe it exists for a reason. I have 2 members of my BP that have lost jobs very recently. Do you think I should expect a gift, even tho they will be there for me on my day? I asked these people cause I wanted them to stand next to me, not a gift. But that is just me. I would never go to a wedding w/o a gift. But have fallen on hard times in the past and have had to decline friends wedding s because of it. I am sure they probably would have wanted me there regardless, but I just couldn't afford any of it! Sorry so long, I will step down off the soap box now!

We have a bunch of people who didn't give us a gift. We are sending them thank you cards anyway. We didn't have the wedding to get back gifts! We appreciate everyone spending their day with us!
