thank you card question... NEW QUESTION... UPDATE at bottom
do you send a thank you card to those who attended your wedding, but didn't give a gift?
ETA: ok, so i send a card... DO I SEND THE 'SAME KIND OF CARD', OR IS THERE ANOTHER 'STYLE' SENT??
this might seem weird, but i just don't want to make a mistake on this one. thanks

Re: thank you card question... NEW QUESTION
Send whatever thank you cards you sent to everyone else, unless there is something inappropriate about them (e.g., they have 'thank you for your generosity' printed on them... but most don't have anything like that).

You send them the same card you send to everyone else.

Really?? You have to send a thank you card to someone if they didn't give you a gift?? I thought you were thanking them for the gift, not for their attending your wedding...

THAT'S EXACTLY WHERE I STAND ON THIS ONE!!
to make it clearer... everyone on 'my side' gave a gift, even those who didn't attend. they all get thankyous
dh has two friends who rsvp'ed YES, attended the ceremony, but DID NOT attend the reception... so i paid $125 for a dinner that was not eaten. then there is dh's bil. he was to play at our wedding; bailed on us six days prior, we had to pay and additonal $2000 for a dj, his wife (dh's sister) and her three miserable kids came to the wedding... bil did not ... another $125 down the toilet... and they didn't even bother to give an EMPTY congrats card.
WHY ON EARTH DO I HAVE TO SEND THESE PEOPLE A THANK YOU CARD. THERE IS NOTHING TO THANK THEM FOR!!!!!!!!!!
I WANT THEM TO KNOW I'M NOT HAPPY. BUT I DON'T WANT TO STOOP TO THEIR LEVEL. what is a girl to do???

I would wait a while until I sent out thank you cards to those who did not attend. According to etiquette rules, people have up to 6 months to send a gift... Then again, I wouldn't wait 6 months to send a thank you card either... maybe 2-3? (Then again, I think you posted earlier that you did not think these people would be sending a gift...)
I'd still send the card. Just a few minutes and a stamp to be the bigger person. That's just me.

i know where you're coming from, and i'm leaning toward 'being the bigger person' but i also feel the same anguish, pain, anger, disgust that aliwnec10 feels in her NO SHOW thread!
there is a part of me that really wants to 'give it back to them'.
can i give them a different style card?? one that doesn't have a picture of us?? or am i being childish??
as you can see, this is driving me CRAZY

Yes... for some people perhaps the trip and hotel stay, etc. was all they could afford to do. I think it's polite to thank them for sharing in the day.
Also, I think it saves you from the perhaps they did bring a card with a gift enclosed and it got lost... those things happen and i think this covers your butt in the event that that did happen.

I think you can send whatever card you want. I just wouldn't go to the trouble of getting yet another thank you card... and yes, I COMPLETELY understand your feelings and know where you're coming from!!

I can see how you feel, but according to etiquitte? people have 1 year from the time of your wedding to send a gift. I think it's an emily Post thing. Anyway, I know of someone attending my friends wedding having hard times and sent a gift later but they provided an explaination. I wouldn't want to shoot myself in the foot and offend and then have someone send a gift in aweek or two. JMO.

same card I would think. Unless you are doing picture cards and you want to save them for other people?
