Thank you cards- very late....

Thank you cards- very late....

My friend got married Jan 04. She was getting her thank yous made from the photographer and procrastinated and a year later she still hasn't sent them out.

She emailed me all embarrassed and stressed out about them- not knowing whether to send them now or to forget them.

I sent mine out a little late- about 3 months from when we got married and people on my husband's side of the family were freaking out that they were so late. It was very annoying.

What do you think- should she send them out now? Maybe with an apology in the thank yous?

Not sure if she should enclose an apology note, but she should definately get them out. I think ettiquette (sp?) states thank yous should be out w/i 1 year.

I would definitely think that she should still send them. Maybe leave out an apology, but definitely write a nice, LONG personal message and gesture of appreciation!

Yes, we have a whole year to send them out - sorry to hear your DH's family was so difficult about it. I'm already nervous about not sending anything out but we just got our proofs last week and have 3 mos. to choose our pix, so...Your friend can send them out now that she has them. Better late than never may apply here.

she should still send them, and apologize for the delay in the note.

I agree, a 'more than usual' personal note would help!

She should DEFINITELY still send them out. It might not be the best etiquette to send them a year later....but to not even acknowledge her guests generosity at all is just plain rude.

I would definitely urge your friend to send them out. As the saying goes 'better late than never.' One of my cousin's sent hers out relatively late (I think over 6 months after the wedding) and she started hers out 'It seems like it was just yesterday we were all together, celebrating.....' Just an idea.

I wish I could get my hands on that etiquette book that supposedly says brides have one year to send a thank you card. LOL!

The only thing I have EVER seen is that guests have one year to give a gift, but that the thank you should NOT be anymore than 3 months after the gift is received.

I think she should still send them. I still haven't received my proofs so my thank yous will be going out between the 3-4 month range. Later than I wanted, but what can you do.

Better late then never. I think her guests would be offended if she didn't send any out at all.

i think sending them out late is better then not sending them out at all. i think she should maybe include a brief paragraph saying she is sorry they have taken so long

maybe

we are very sorry that this card has taken so long to get to you but the sentiment remains the same. and then write whaterver she wants

Ettiquette is not within one year!!! It's asap!
I think she should still send them out. Maybe a little apology wouldn't hurt.

Re: Thank you cards- very late....

Friends of ours just sent their thank you cards out from their September 6, 2002 wedding. They included them in with their Christmas cards. Here is what they wrote

Thank you for your generous gift. It meant a lot to us for you to be a part of our special day on September 6, 2002.
It was a memorable day that you were able to share with us that will be treasured in our hearts and lives forever. Hope you had a good time and enjoyed the day as much as we did. Please accept our apology for the late delivery. Best wishes to everyone for the upcoming holiday season. Love, K and M

I knew they had photo problems and then were just plain lazy, thats why they were sent two years late, but I was still happy to atleast have some kind of acknowledgement for the generous gift we gave and being a part of their day!! Better late than never!! Your friend should definitely send them!!
