Thank you for parents?

Thank you for parents?

Someone gave me a wedding etiquette book that says you should send a Thank You note (early in your engagement) to the parents who have contributed $$ to the wedding. It says that the number 1 pre-wedding fight with parents is a feeling of being taken advantage of, ignored or not included enough.

My father & stepmom are paying for the cost of my reception site so I was thinking of writing them a little note and mailing it out.

Did you girls who have generous parents/in-laws sending thank yous already? What do you think?

I never thought of that! I mean as a kid when your parents give you things you sometimes just forget to thank them. My parents are paying for the reception, so yea I think I am going to do something for them. Does the etiquette book say anything about giving them a gift or just a card?

This is partially what it says....

'...When parents offer their support, it's a gift of tremendous honor to you.....Given the importance of these Moment One decisions, as you extend your hand to you parents and as they extend their generosity to you-no matter what the %s of financial splits you all agree upon--you cannot start off the process with more heart and grace than thanking them for their offer or acceptance to help. '

Thank you OR gift:

'Flowers, gifts, chocolates are fine for this task, but it's the words in your thank you note that will stay with your parents far longer'

In the thank you card you should aim to do these things:

-thank them for the offer to help
-express your joy at the generosity of the offer
-tell them how much you're looking forward to sharing the experience of working and planning together

Hmm I will have to talk this over with FH. Maybe I will have one of thoe Edible Arrangements sent to the house for them since I know my parents love them.

My sister gave my mom a mother/daughter statue and my dad something I can't remember at her rehearsal dinner. I think that would be an appropriate time for thank yous.

I've never heard of that but I think its a great idea! My parents are paying for almost everything, so FH and I were thinking of getting them something really special, like a long weekend away in Vegas or a mini vacay since they are being SOOOOOOOO generous. But knowing how parents are, a really heartfelt thank you card with a personal note would probably be the best gift you could ever give!
