When you wrote your wedding thank yous for monetary gifts, did you mention what you were going to do with the money?

I haven't gotten married yet, but i started thinking about your question and IMO... i wouldn't. I would just simply thank them for their monetary gift and that it was very much appreciated. Leave it plain and simple. Good luck!

I didn't write how the money will be used but I wrote a heartfelt thank you to everyone. That does the trick!

Just a meaningful thank you is good enough.

I did, for the first engagement card we received. I read somewhere, maybe Martha Stewart, that it was appropriate. But I don't think it's neccessary. HTH

I didn't. Most gifts were money and I simply wrote, thank you for sharing our day...generous gift...that kind of stuff

I wondered about this...my ettiquite book said it is perfectly ok to state the amount you recieved and it is also proper to state what you are going to use the money for. IMO - I think its nice to let the person know.

Re: Thank you - Help!!!
I never mentioned the amount of the gift, but for a few people, I wrote that we plan on using the gift towards a down payment on a house. For most, I just thanked them for the generous gift and for sharing in our day.

Re: Thank you - Help!!!
We did. We also had a pre-printed message on our card but I still wrote extensively to each guest. I took a while to send them out because of this (they went out last week) but if you could believe it, I have received calls thanking ME for thanking them...and they all said it was worth the wait. I figure I would appreciate a specific thank you rather than the normal 'thanks for the generous gift' so that's what I did.

Generally you should write about what you're going to use it for to make it personal.
Dear Aunt Jemimah and Uncle Ben,
Thank you so much for sharing our special day with us. It gave us so much joy to have you there to dance the nght away with us. Thanks so much for the very generous check. We plan to put the $400 into our house savings fund. Thanks to you, we are closer to owning a new home!
Love,
Jack and Jill
Dear **** and Jane,
Thank you so much for coming to share our special day with us. It meant so much to us that you make the 500 mile trip from Chicago to be there for us. It was great to see you! Thank you so much for the generous gift. We plan to use the $200 to complete our china set. We can't wait to have you over for dinner!
Love,
Hansel and Gretel
