I have alot of people to write back to who were really cheap on their gift and I was wondering what was a nice way for saying 'thank you for coming' and your gift sucked!!
I don't want to write thank you for your generous gift..
any suggestions?

What about thank you for being with us to share in our special day. We were honored that you could be there something like that??

Did you just invite people to you wedding because you wanted them to share in the day with you or so you could get gifts? Sounds like the latter from your exceptionally ungrateful tone.
Every occasion has people who either can't afford a nice gift, or who just do not have good taste to choose something that doesn't 'suck'.
The thing to do, in good taste, is to thank them for their gift, regardless of what it was, and for coming to the wedding.
And then get a reality check as to what a wedding is really about.

I was talking about this with FH. Some people financial responiblities might be worse off than others. I'm inviting people to share this special day with me not forhow much of a gift they're giving.

I would say, 'we're so happy that you could share our special day.'
And, just be thankful that they could celebrate with you. As long as they behaved appropriately, be thankful.
I had one couple bring their adult son, who was not invited. They informed my mother at the cocktail hour that 'he's here and we didn't want someone else to tell you and you get your nose out of joint'
For a gift, they gave us $65.
But, they are smiling in all of our pictures (which REALLY means a lot to me), they danced all night long, they were all dressed appropriately for the occassion, and they STILL rave about how nice my wedding was. So, despite the gift, I really AM happy that they could share my special day.
