I know this may be an odd question, but I've never been good at this. We are starting to get congrats engagement cards in the mail and such. I want to send thank you's to everyone, but just don't know how to word them. I mean how do you nicely say 'hey thanks for the thought and the money!' I am scared that I will also have the problem when (and if) I have an engagement party. How do you say 'thanks for spending our eparty with us, and thanks for the picture frame' I just don't want to sound to abrupt. I would like to really thank people nicely and let them know how much we appreciate them and their gifts.

We got a lot of gifts in the mail already and we are having a e-party. I sent thank yous to people that sent us gifts and just wrote 'thank you for acknowledging our engagement. We are looking forward to celebrating with you.' I hate writing thank yous....LoL

I actually spent all day yesterday doing thank yous from our eparty. This is pretty much the stock message I wrote (at least 60 times)
Thank you so much for your generous gift (if it was money - it if was a gift, I wrote what the gift was, but we only got like five gifts). We truly appreciate your thoughtfulness. It was wonderful to see you at the engagement party and we look forward to celebrating wtih you at the wedding.
For close friends and family I wrote something a little more personalized.
Hopefully people will appreciate that I handwrote everything instead of having that verse printed in the cards!!!

You can thank them for their generous gift and thank you for the congratulations. If its a gift they gave you such as glasses, you can say thank you so much for the glasses can't wait until we will use them when entertaining and having you over, something like that lol

when i got some gift cards, i wrote 'Thanks for the generous gift' for people that have given me gifts from my registry, i mentioned the item(s) and I also said, 'Thank you for your kind words and well wishes'

IMO:
I am not a fan of 'generic' messages.
An example is a friend of mine sent out thank-yous for a baby shower to everyone that said 'thank you for the baby goodies'
I know this will probably bite me in the butt later I want to write personal notes not stock thankyous

we... i shold say I had a hard time with this as well. I said something like..
thank you very much for the generous gift. We truly appreciate you being there to help us celebrate this exciting time in our lives.
or
It meant a lot to us to have special people like you there with us to help us celebrate this exciting time in our lives
