Thanks to all who helped with advice on where to get kitty - here's a picture!
Thank you so much to those who offered suggestions on where to get my kitty!
Here's our newest family member - Madison (Maddy). We adopted her from the ASPCA last week, right before Christmas. She's adapting well so far. She'd been in the shelter for 6 months, she came in as a stray.
We discovered Maddy is a special needs kitty - she's only got 2 teeth! She does amazingly though, and just needs us to crush her hard food a little and make sure she has soft food available.
Maddy is 6 years old, and was in the ASPCA for 6 months because she didn't like to come off the top of ledges of the play room and she didn't like people to hold her. After hours playing with different cats there we asked if we could take her into a room away from the other cats to see how she'd respond - she turned into a lovable lap cat almost immediately - it turns out she's just afraid of other cats!!
So, if you ever go to a shelter to get an animal, keep in mind that they are going through trauma at the time and may be different (happier/friendlier) in a different environment.
Thank you all again for your shelter suggestions, and happy new year!!
