That Bin Laden Tape

Just read this on CNN- basically OBL is trying to bleed us dry economically-

CNN) -- The Arabic-language network Al-Jazeera released a full transcript Monday of the most recent videotape from Osama bin Laden in which the head of al Qaeda said his group's goal is to force America into bankruptcy.

Al-Jazeera aired portions of the videotape Friday but released the full transcript of the entire tape on its Web site Monday.

'We are continuing this policy in bleeding America to the point of bankruptcy. Allah willing, and nothing is too great for Allah,' bin Laden said in the transcript.

He said the mujahedeen fighters did the same thing to the Soviet Union in Afghanistan in the 1980s, 'using guerrilla warfare and the war of attrition to fight tyrannical superpowers.'

'We, alongside the mujahedeen, bled Russia for 10 years until it went bankrupt and was forced to withdraw in defeat,' bin Laden said.

He also said al Qaeda has found it 'easy for us to provoke and bait this administration.'

'All that we have to do is to send two mujahedeen to the furthest point east to raise a piece of cloth on which is written al Qaeda, in order to make generals race there to cause America to suffer human, economic and political losses without their achieving anything of note other than some benefits for their private corporations,' bin Laden said.

Al-Jazeera executives said they decided to post the entire speech because rumors were circulating that the network omitted parts that 'had direct threats toward specific states, which was totally untrue.'

'We chose the most newsworthy parts of the address and aired them. The rest was used in lower thirds in graphics format,' said one official.

U.S. intelligence officials Monday confirmed that the transcript made public Monday by Al-Jazeera was a complete one.

As part of the 'bleed-until-bankruptcy plan,' bin Laden cited a British estimate that it cost al Qaeda about $500,000 to carry out the attacks of September 11, 2001, an amount that he said paled in comparison with the costs incurred by the United States.

'Every dollar of al Qaeda defeated a million dollars, by the permission of Allah, besides the loss of a huge number of jobs,' he said. 'As for the economic deficit, it has reached record astronomical numbers estimated to total more than a trillion dollars.

The total U.S. national debt is more than $7 trillion. The U.S. federal deficit was $413 billion in 2004, according to the Treasury Department.

'It is true that this shows that al Qaeda has gained, but on the other hand it shows that the Bush administration has also gained, something that anyone who looks at the size of the contracts acquired by the shady Bush administration-linked mega-corporations, like Halliburton and its kind, will be convinced.

'And it all shows that the real loser is you,' he said. 'It is the American people and their economy.'

As for President Bush's Iraq policy, Bin Laden said, 'the darkness of black gold blurred his vision and insight, and he gave priority to private interests over the public interests of America.

'So the war went ahead, the death toll rose, the American economy bled, and Bush became embroiled in the swamps of Iraq that threaten his future,' bin Laden said.

Since nobody else has responded... I'll take a stab at this.

I believe that was Bin Laden's motive all along. He wants to bring the US economy to a halt.

Even back in 1993... that was his goal.

I think it was interesting that this wasn't mentioned as soon as the tape aired...
it really puts a different spin on the 'War on Terror' IMO..

I'm sure I'm going to get flamed for caring about what bin laden thinks, but what do you think he emant by saying that it's the american epople who have the pwer? He's a smart man and he knows how our government works. How do we have power? Does he mean at the voting booth? Who does he want us to vote for? but then he also said it doens't matter who wins the election. I wonder what OBL is really trying to say to the american people.

I know a lot of people will say 'why do you care what he think? he is evil', but I think it's important. people aren't attacking us for no reason, and it is NOT because they 'hate freedom' as some like to say, there's a bigger, real reason, and if we cna figure this out, then maybe we can figure out how to stop it. The 'War on terror' will never be over. You can kill as many 'terrorists' as you want, there will be 20 new ones trained for each one killed. i think we need to find out what the root cause is and how we can stop making so many enemies.

He is actually telling the American people (us)to tell our 'president' to basically stop all attacks on them so they can stop their attacks on us-so our President can listen to the public American people, but unfortunately, this will NEVER NEVER happen--b/c its not all the Presidents decision anway---we took sides in the 80's when Israel bombed Jordan and another Arab country)--but anyway, the US was supposed to be the 'peacemaker' and what we ended up doing was taking sides w/ Israel and bombed them as well, and that is the reason that started all of this b/c Bin Ladin specifically stated he thought about it for years and wanted to get us back for it.....And that he didnt expect the towers to fall, and when they did, it was a Plus for him---


NO, he made it perfectly clear that it does not matter whether its Bush or Kerry who becomes President, basically he could care less, but what he did say, is that no matter who the President is, they will not protect us, only b/c Bin Ladin has cells EVERYWHERE!!! and will always find a way to get to us, somewhere, somehow. And as long as this war continues to go on, the rest of the world will live in fear of 'what and where will happen next'

It bothers me especially because Bush and the media would ahve us believe that e's on the run and he's snot in power and he' not doing well. I mean he looked perfectly helthy on the video, which he was obviusly able to produce and dissminate..soo....how can anyone say he's out of power. You can kill all the #2 terrorists you want, but there will always be a number 2, esoecially if #1 is still pulling the strings

You got it! Instead of going after Saddam, his first priority should have been Bin Ladin since at the time of the attacks, Bush knew where he was!!! But he failed at once another thing.....oh well.....looks like another 4 years of pure crap w/ him once again! Was definitely looking forward to a change, Anything!!! But oh well.....
