Does anyone know what the cake options are for the Thatched Cottage? I was recently disappointed to learn there is no cake tasting! I'm sure it'll be fine but I don't know where to begin with flavor combos and am scared the cake won't taste great without tasting a sample first. Thanks!
P.S. If anyone has any pictures they are willing to share that would be awesome!

Do they bake the cake on the premises or use an outside bakery? If outside, try to arrange a tasting with them.

Thatched Cottage Cake
My cousin had her wedding at thatched cottage. I don't really remember the cake, but the one thing I do remember is she was upset that it was not decorated the way she wanted it. Make sure you give them clear instructions as to what you want.

They have a pastry chef on site. We just picked our cake (devil's food cake with chocolate pudding) and were just asked what we like. They can do a lot of different things, so go in with an idea of what you would like to have. I wouldn't worry about the cake - we did a food tasting before we booked and everything was AMAZING. And I will say, the one thing FH & I ALWAYS hear when we say our reception is at Thatched Cottage is that the food is great (everyone we have met that has been to a wedding there has raved about it!).

Re: Thatched Cottage Cake
My daughters picked our cake based on the type of cake we usually like. Marble cake with chocolate mousse filling. It was delish. Just like OP said, go in with an idea of what you'd like. The picture book of cakes has very outdated looking cakes. Have a look around online; you will find something that you like and they can create just about anything. This was our cake. Simple but I had two kids picking it out.
I forgot to mention, the cake stand is beautiful that TC uses.

When FH and I and our families did the regular tasting before booking they served us each a slice of red velvet cake. It was delicious! Even my mom who doesn't care for red velvet cake finished it. I'm sad I don't get to eat more of their cake before the wedding lol

Thanks everyone! I definitely feel better now. I was thinking red velvet cake because I'm getting married 12/21 and it's festive (plus I love red velvet cake!). Does red velvet and buttercream go together? The outside is buttercream right?
pjt212301 thanks for the picture-pretty cake, are those real flowers? Any recommendations for a fellow Thatched bride? :)

Red velvet usually has a cream cheese frosting but I don't see why you couldn't do buttercream. The cake flowers were made out of chocolate buttercream, we had a lot of browns and creams for our weddings. The cake was a square and the top layer was round - that's what my daughers like:) Our reception was a cocktail and dessert reception and we had EVERY option that you could get. All of the food was amazing and so plentiful. I would always recommend serving the raspberry champagne - it was delish.

Thatched Cottage Cake - Long Island Weddings
The thatched cottage cake is DELICIOUS!! I was very pleasantly surprised when I ate it at our wedding! I usually hate wedding cake but I actually said out loud after we cut the cake how good it was! Haha I have a picture of my cake in my album, only problem is like your friend, my cake was not designed exactly how i wanted it to be. I was very specific so I am not sure why or how it got confused but the final product is not anything I'd complain about. (I wanted a topsy turvy cake & it was normal layered. I wanted the flowers going up either side of the yellow brick road & instead it was sporadic and the top layer was supposed to be basket weave texture, it was smooth like all of the other layers) I had marble cake with chocolate pudding (thanks for the suggestion, Pam )
