I am getting married at the Thatched Cottage next July. Before I booked, I have heard only great reviews about their food. But since I booked, I have noticed a lot of negative feedback about the place. For anyone who has had or been to a wedding there- can you please let me know what exactly you did or didnt like? I went to the tasting and thought the food was great however I didnt really care for the entrees. Any info. or reviews of the Thatched would be great. Thanks girls!

Re: Thatched Cottage Food
Had my tasting there as well and I thought the food was great (although I only really at the chicken since I dont eat salmon). My aunt went to a wedding there a few months ago and she had the beef dish (prime rib I think) and said it was outstanding, perfectly cooked. I was actually disappointed they didnt offer any beef dishes at the tasting but the fact that my aunt said it was good eased my mind a little because she doesnt like ANYTHING! lol

Re: Thatched Cottage Food
Our food tasting was great too! However, we were also disappointed that we didn't get to taste a beef dish.
I was a little nervous too because I've heard the food is phenomenal, especially the cocktail hour, and I've heard some negatives, mainly the entrees. Two different people have said the prime rib wasn't good (one said it was overcooked). So my FH and I have chosen not to offer the prime rib as one of our entrees. Other than that, I haven't heard any other negatives on the food.
What have you heard??
P.S. We loved the raspberry champagne too!! (finished 2 bottles). I don't even usually like champagne.

Re: Thatched Cottage Food
I almost booked the Thatched Cottage but the same thing happend to me. I kept getting mixed reviews and it scared me.
However, my FH's friend went to a wedding there a few weeks ago and he said the food was great and he loved the place. So I think the bad reviews were from a while ago. Maybe they got a new chef.
Another thing, make sure you dont over invite because the room doesn't hold as many as they say it does comfortably. My friends mom went to a wedding there and she said the only thing wrong was that it was way too crowded.
Good Luck!

I was wondering how many would actually be comfortable in that room -- do you know how many guests she had?

OMG the food was the best part of our wedding there! The raspberry champagne is amazing. My guests are still talking about how much food was offered and how attentive the waitstaff was. Honesty, you will never be without food or drink there. I had the ravioli w/mushrooms for dinner and they offered seconds at my wedding, so I had prime rib as well. Prime Rib was the most ordered item, and not one complaint in the food dept. In addition to cake, they put a tray of italian cookies and pasteries and choc. covered strawberries on every table. If you have any questions or doubts feel free to FM me, I have nothing but amazing things to say!! GL!

I don't know about you other TC brides, but that makes me feel much better! Another thing that makes me feel better is that I am seeing a lot more of us on the boards. That means they must be doing something right. I have heard mixed reviews as well, but we loved our tasting. That raspberry champagne was phenomenal. My FMIL wrote down the name of it, haha. It seems as though a lot of brides who were already married at TC were satisfied. I'm excited!

We went to a wedding there 2 summers ago and everyone still talks about the cocktail hour - the food was amazing. The views outside are really pretty too. I don't really remember the main sit down because we ate so much at the cocktail hour. :)

Re: Thatched Cottage Food
Its good to to see all of us popping up here!!! I understand everyone has their opinions on the food, but what I don't understand is if it is being served french style why those whos meat was over done or under underdone didnt say something and get a new piece. That is one of the perks of french style, they wheel out the cart and dont they have the meat cooked to different temperatures? (at least this is how it was explained to me at our tasting and from others who have attended weddings?) Its supposed to be more convenient, fresher, with a better variety of temperatures. I dont know.. maybe I am a big mouth and would send it back lol.
I am so glad to hear someone had the mushroom ravioli!! I was dying to see how that was! I am also curious if anyone tasted the mushroom chicken dish??? I only had the spinach chicken at my tasting.

Re: Thatched Cottage Food
You have a good point! I think that is true about the French style. I did hear that one person said people did send back the beef dish because it was overcooked. I can't give any input on the chicken mushroom dish...sorry I'll keep you posted if I hear anything.
