I believe it goes to the wait staff. You are also expected to tip your Matride and bridal attendant.

Re: The 18% grat on the Hall...
My hall also told us they are charging us 18% grat. That's for the wait staff. It does not include the Maitre D'. It is at our discration to tip him.
You may need to contact them to know what is covered and what is not.

it's basically just a service charge that is spread out among the various service people who will work for you that day---waitstaff, bartenders, server assistants, etc.

Exactly... apparently, my place tells their couples that an extra $1200 is expected the day of for the maitre d', bridal attendant and 2 captains (whatever those are)

Wow $1,200 seems like a lot for the maitre d' and bridal attendant. I've hear $3.-$5/ per person for Maitra D and about $100 for bridal attendant

For us, the 18% goes to the wait staff and then we give to the matre'd and bridal attendant. i think the standard for that is $3-$5 per head.

our hall charges 1.50 per person for the maitre'd, and 18% grat for the rest of the wait staff

How about your Banquet Manager?? Are you tipping them? How much?

In my case the 18% goes to everyone BUT the banquet manager. He/she gets a set $450 regardless of head count (contractual). We aren't supposed to have to tip anyone else from the staff.
