The 'and guest' issue with placecards

The 'and guest' issue with placecards

Hi all,

I know this has been asked before, but if you receive an rsvp with a guest and his date, do you write in the guest's name if they're just dating? (I would write in the name if they were engaged or obviously married)
My good friend is seriously dating this woman, and I think he got a little miffed when his invite said 'joe smith and guest' and not her name. They're not even engaged yet!!

I'd like to avoid that for the placecards if possible, but I want to be consistent and not put 'and guest' on some and 2 names on others....

thanks

I think if they're seriously dating and you know the guest's name then it would be nice to write the name out.

I would think if this guest was miffed about the invite, he should write her name on the response so you can put it on the place card, no? I always write out my full name on the response (even when we were engaged) and the place card usually had the exact way I had written it.

Terri since you are using regular place cards you can write each person their own cards. We did chocolate place card favors and I only wrote the name of the person we had invited and below that we wrote and Guest. Mr John Brown & Guest.

A wedding I went to with my hubby, this was before we were married, the bride wrote a card for everyone. If you have the names then you could do it, but if it will be too much work getting everyone's name then save yourself the trouble sweetie and put and guest.

Happy planning

If someone includes the name of the guest on the response card, definitely use it on the place card. Some people just wrote 'and guest' on the response card, I guess they were not sure who they were going to bring, and therefore I had no choice as to write and guest on the place card.

If you have a guests name, I think you should write it in. Just use what the guest used on the RSVP.

I have only a few 'and guest' invites going in the mail and I am hoping that the people write their guests names on the RSVP card. If not, I will just call them or e-mail them and ask who they are bringing.

I agree if they supplied the name of the guest on the response card, write it on the placecard

and another question - how formal are you writing your placecards out? 'Mr. Joseph Smith and Ms. Jane Doe'

If you know the name of the guest, write it.

Teri I acknowleged the man and the woman if they were married. Mr&Mrs John and Terri Doe

No offense Shamma but Mr & Mrs John and Terri Doe is not correct. There is a huge thread about this same subject on WeddingChannel. It is bascially incorrect grammar to write it that way.
You can just write John and Terri Doe or Mr. & Mrs. John Doe. For unmarried guests you can write
Mr. John Doe & Ms. Terri Smith or John Doe & Terri Smith. And actually the women's name normally goes first on inner envelopes and place cards if you a)know both parties or b)the female is the invited guest and the male is someone she is bring along and you do not know him very well.

I had a few and guests come in on rsvps...and I hunted people down to get the people's names...

the only exception was my second cousin who replied and guest..so when I saw him I asked for his girlfriends name...He said Julie...i said Julie what..he siad she doesn't like to use her last name!!??? whatever...I respect that for whatever reason and put Mr. Brian Smith and Julie...

But I would make every effort to find out the names...if they don't help you out...het at least you tried...

Re: The 'and guest' issue with placecards

I know this is an old thread but I have to bring it up again....My fiance and I have lived together for a while and are now marrying next year (yay!). When we were still just BF and GF (but living together) he was the best man in his friends wedding.

The invitation came to 'His name & Guest' even though the couple getting married knew me, hung out with me, knew that we lived together and I would OBVIOUSLY be his date at the wedding.

At the wedding, again, the seating card said 'His name & Guest' and really just made me feel like I was not personally invited to the wedding, but I was just a tagalong invite. I was pretty hurt by it.

On the flip side, two of my friends got married a week after this other couple, and they had only met my BF (at the time) ONCE before, and the invitation AND the seating card had both of our full names written on it, and it really made my FH feel good, like HE was wanted there too.

So, that's my input, and I guess you can assume what I will be doing at my wedding.

i believe that if you know the 'and guest' that is being invited you should write the name on the placecard... before fh and i became engaged we always appreciated when both our names (not and guest) was on an invite or placecard !!!
