The baby is weighing....

The baby is weighing....

5 pounds already!!! I have almost 5 weeks to go. My doctor told me that I'm going to have a BIG baby. He hasn't done an ultrasound and is only going by measuring the size of my belly.

Is this a normal weight for 8 months (33.5 weeks)??? How about a c-section...could this also be a possibility?

Yikes!!!

Re: The baby is weighing....

From week 20 on they kept telling me my baby was going to be 'BIG', she was only 7 lbs. 2 oz.

I have heard many people say that their Dr's told them the baby was big, and then they have an average size baby!

Don't panic

Don't worry, an average baby weights 8 pounds.
My daughter weighed 6 pounds and 9 ounzes.

Dont worry too much about it, it will cause you un-need stress. There is a margin of error when they tell you the estimated weight. I was told Claire would be 9.5-10 pounds (I was 8 days late) and she was born at 7lbs 15oz. Try not to think about it too much, it will be ok.....

They told me my baby would be on the big side...he was 6 lbs, 13 oz.
All I remember is that they told me he was about 4.5 lbs at 31 weeks.
I don't think 5 lbs sounds big - they say the baby gains 1/2 lb per week towards the end...if that is the case your baby is right on target to be totally average!

dr's can be totally off in their estimates!! my dr kept saying that Sofia was going to be between 7 - 7.5 lbs....she was 8 lbs 11oz....
au natural, no drugs!!!

eta: didn't mean to scare you (if I did)...the point I was trying to make was that the dr can be off in his estimate, thats all.

My Dr kept telling me how big Cassidy was going to be, and she was 7lbs 15oz. I wouldn't stress yourself about it too much.

(BTW...I can't believe you're so far along already! I'm sure it didn't fly by for you, but it seems to have gone so fast!!!)

My baby was close to the 5lb mark at that time. He came out weighing 7lbs 2 oz and three weeks early. If I would have went on time - he would have been at the 8lb mark minimum.

My Dr's told me I was measuring big too and Mallory was 8lbs. 10 oz, and with my son they said he was average and he was 9lbs 5oz, I won't even listen to their weight estimates on the next baby!

Re: The baby is weighing....

I wouldn't worry, honestly. The average weight of a baby at 35 weeks is 5.25 pounds with a 40 week weight (providing you went had the baby at 40 weeks) of about 7.5 pounds.

Also, sonograms are known for being off as much as a pound (usually high) and shouldn't be taken for exact measurement.

Here's a chart for you to look at.

Average Baby weight/length

Edited, because I just realized that he's estimating by measuring, not sonogram, which still can be off.
