My wedding cake comes with the RH package, but they said I can make a separate appt with the bakery they use if I want (I'd like to try different flavors). When my sister got married said she didn't even care to do that ,she just picked a flavor and it turned out ok. What do you think? Should I bother picking out the cake from the bakery or just go by the pictures and flavors that RH gives me to choose? I 'm worried that if I visit the bakery I'll see a cake that's way out of my budget or is considered an 'upgrade' for my RH. Thoughts?

Re: the cake - should I care?
If the cake is really important to you and your FH then I would consider the upgrades, if not keep it basic.

Re: the cake - should I care?
I don't care *too* much about the cake. I do want it to look a certain way and to taste good, but I don't need a fancy baker to make it, or a special design, or whatever.
I would like to pick the flavors only because I've had some REALLY bad cake before and it seems like such a huuuuge waste when it's bad and no one eats it. So I'd probably go for the tasting.

IMO the cake is very important, I am obsessed with cakes so it has to be the one I design

Re: the cake - should I care?
I had a thread like this one last week. I think in NY with todays weddings offering so much in the way of desserts, a cake becomes no more than a photo-op. I designed my cake and it was part of the package. The banquet manager said 'What do you want and we'll make it.' I really didnt care. I made it look pretty and ate everything else. But if a person is inclined to spend more money on a cake, then yes, it should taste good,

Personally, I think the cake is important. There is so much tradition behind it! True, it is a photo-op, but it's the only dessert I am going to have, so I want a beautiful and yummy cake.

You can still go and check out the flavor even if the cake is included in the cost. Infact, I would encourage it. Some people don't care to, but if the cake is important to you, and it seems like it is, then go for it!
