the candle table place cards!!

if anyone has done those candles as their place cards for the reception please let me know!! i really love that idea and want to do it but i have heard it takes a lot of work and time to do! id love to hear feedback from either someone who did them already or is planning to do them and how you do it if you want to do it yourself with the velum paper and all.. i heard to print on that thing its a difficult thing!! ahh im going nuts stressing over this idea and dont know if its worth doing anymore because im hearing different sides of it.. i really want to do this though! :(

also i was thinking.. if i get them made myself how does that work?? im a little confused.. because you only really know 100% who is coming to your wedding like 2 months before or however the time period it is from your RSVP and then by the time you do your seating arrangement and see what tables the guests are sitting at is when you can get them done.. so isnt that cramping all of that close to the wedding day?? because how else would they be able to do it for me way before my wedding without knowing the guests and where their sitting! :( please help!!!

Re: the candle table place cards!!

I actually did them for my wedding and did them in steps. First i bought the votive candle holders. Ones that are straight down work better than the tapered in ones. I bought them from AC moore and they were on clearance for 4/$1.00 which was great. Then i bought the vellum paper from michaels craft store. They actually have precut pieces of vellum paper in their bridal aisle for this purpose. After i had my seating arrangement i followed the direction on the package (it gave me a template) and i printed them. It is important to set your printer to draft mode so it doesnt deposit too much ink (vellum paper is not absorbant). Then i let them dry for a day or 2. Punched them out and instead of any type of adhesive i punched holes in the vellum and tied a piece of curling ribbon in a bow to fasten the vellum to the votive holder. I then took a piece of satin trimmed organza ribbon and cut it to size. Fastened that to the candle using double sided tape. Make sure you use tea light candles rather than votives because votives tend to make the glass hot. The pic i posted is obviously before the were lit up. If you have any questions fm me.

thank you so much! me and my MOH are going to look into that and see if we can do that. but i have heard of brides who didn't do it themselves and instead had them made for them online! i was wondering how that can be done way before your actusl wedding when you don't know who is going and the seating arangement! :(

I am doing them myself also...I think there is a picture in my DIY album...not sure though.

I got my candles and glass from quick candles. I did a test first and personally find the votives didn't make the glass hot at all b/c the flame is higher. The tea lights were low and don't last at long (from my own little test) and made the glass a little hotter.
I decided to print the vellum with the names of the people I knew for sure were coming (just the names) and cut the vellum to size, then added a wine colored satin ribbon and now when I do my seating chart...I will add a fall colored leaf with the table number on it. I did it this way so that if anyone canceled, or I needed to rearrange after they were done, I only had to replace the little leaf. To do the leaf, I made a gradient with fall colors in powerpoint and typed in the numbers 1 - 17 (or however many tables you will have) and printed and punched out like 20 of each (just in case I needed more than 10).
HTH.

.. because you only really know 100% who is coming to your wedding like 2 months before

That's very optimistic of you! I would follow the advice above about putting the table number on a separate, and changeable, tag. I had to split a table, add a number, and re-seat 10 people 2 days before my wedding. Whatever you do, make sure your seating cards are fixable!
