So the post about the electric slide just brought to mind the conversation I had with my mother. It was funny so I thought I'd share.
I mentioned to my sister that I will not be playing the chicken dance and she was like 'come on, I love that song' and I said no. So she happens to mention to my mom that I wouldn't be doing it and my mother proceeds to have a serious conversation with me about how basically their would be an uproar among my guests because you have to play it at every wedding, people expect it and look forward to it. Especially my dad's side (the italian side) of the family because they all love it and its an old italian tradition!!
She made me laugh so between her and my sister they are trying to convince me to play it. I said that if I do I will have the DJ announce that its dedicated to my sister who requested it!!
Its not that I completely hate it. Like if I was already dancing all night and suddently it came on I woudln't storm off the dance floor, I would probably do it. But I wouldn't run up to the dance floor just for that song!!
I just figured I'd share because probably not many of you know the true origins of the chicken dance!!

Re: The Chicken Dance - An Old Italian Tradition
My mom loves the chicken dance....my brother got married in 2002 and since then, all I ever heard was how they didn't play the chicken dance. I didn't want to deal with that the rest of my life
So....we played it at the wedding and dedicated it to my mom. It was great.

I always thought the Chicken Dance was a German/Austrian tradition. See you learn new things on here all the time!

Re: The Chicken Dance - An Old Italian Tradition
The Chicken Dance is the only song my father will dance to other than a slow dance. So, I explained this to my DJ and my father had no idea it was going to be played until I met him in the center of the dance floor and everyone got off because they thought it was time for a father/daughter dance. My dad was surprised and everyone circled around us and did it too. Based on the video, everyone had a blast doing it and I'm glad I had it played.
