the date debate

the date debate

Hi everyone, we haven't set a date yet and were not sure about when we were going to book, but we finally decided that we will have to book our wedding in 2 years in order to save enough money for the big day (we were thinking about booking a year from now but that's just not enough time). Anyway we are looking at winter dates for 2012 and can't decide on a month... What do you think about early Jan as opposed to mid-late Feb? I was thinking that early Jan might not be good because it's so close to the holidays and people will be in post-holiday mode. We were considering early Jan because we originally wanted a Dec wedding but it's going to be too expensive for us... I love the decorations etc. and that's why we are considering the first weekend in Jan.

What do you ladies think? Anyone have their wedding in the first week of January? What would you think if you were invited to a wedding in that first week following the holidays?

TIA!

I'm January 2011. And the rate that I got was amazing!!! Honestly if people want to come to your wedding they will, and if they don't then they will use 'the holidays' as an excuse.
Don't worry the people that really matter will be there, especially with 2 years notice.

Right after the holidays, all of the halls will be decorated!!! Total plus. And you can get some of your decorations ect. at after Christmas sales.

I think early Jan is great. You have the christmas decor, so you also save money on decor, and you can get decorations and favors at after christmas sales!

I would have def. did January, but I do have out of state family members who are in the wedding. I didn't want to put that stress on them with plane tickets and I didn't want to put the stress on us with last minute running around such as fittings, payments, etc. The rates were the same exact price for Jan & Feb :)

We did mid-January and it was great! From what I've heard, most halls take down Christmas decorations towards the end of January, and ours was taking theirs down just days after our wedding, so we got to take pictures with all beautiful Christmas decorations up! Plus, we got a great deal because of January rates! Also, if people have enough notice, I don't see why they wouldn't come, even after the holidays.

this is exactly what we were thinking.. I would rather have Jan because I want the decorations to still be up, but was thinking it would be easier on everyone else financially etc to do it in Feb so that they will have more time to recuperate after the holidays.

PS I was almost going to be your date twin! :(

I'm not a winter bride, but I would pick early January over mid-February. You'll have the decorations, and also I think the weather may be a little milder in January than February...unless you're hoping for a snow, which is beautiful, but your guests might not like it so much.

i like the beginning of January - sometimes I'm bummed that the holidays are over and as a guest, having a wedding to look forward to would be fun and keep the party mood of the holidays going ... plus you'll still have all the holiday decorations! good luck with ur decision

anytime from Jan to Mar will be so much cheaper and you get so much for your $. The begining of Jan is cool because most places still have their XMas decorations up.

Re: the date debate

I want to add that my original wedding date was mid-December. I was really psyched about it but I changed it for a few reasons (other than just wanting a new start)

1) Christmas preparations are so insane and I didn't want to deal with that AND the wedding. I mean we'd basically have to be done with everything Christmas wise and everything wedding wise by mid-December. it's a lot a once

2) I absolutely hate the cold. My skin is dry, it hurts my back and I'm freezing. I also get depressed on short dates. So I ended up moving my wedding from one of the shortest days of the year to one of the longest.

I still do mis dreaming of my gorgeous winter wedding though

Re: the date debate

Definitely do January! I really wanted November, so we wound up booking that, but a bunch of the halls tempted me by saying that if we just waited till January we could save like $15 pp. But I really wanted November so I ****** it up.

Totally up to you though. ALSO, be sure to book ASAP as soon as you pick a date. For most RHs you only need to put $1000 down and then pay half of it like a year before the wedding (if you have that much time).

I only encourage booking ASAP b/c I booked two weeks ago and most of the dates in November 2011 were already gone (especially those surrounding 11/11/11). Just a word of caution!

Good luck!
