How did you go about looking for a dress? There are so many out there at so many stores . . . Did you just show up at a bridal salon and start trying them on?
I started by going to David's Bridal because they have so many styles and all different sizes so you can get an idea of what you like and what style looks best on you, and go from there.

Re: The DRESS
i did the same thing. I went to David's bridal and then i bought the dress on the spot. they are great there. they have everysize... so you get to actually try on a dress that fits you in stead of trying on a 2 when you are actually a size 8.

Re: The DRESS
I went and told them what I liked and din't like and they pulled dresses based on that, my price range, and what they thought would look good on me. I tried on about 15 dresses before I found the one. Just be patient and have fun with it. I brought my MOH with me and she was a hoot the whole time!!!! It definitely made me less cranky while I wa trying on all these dresses.

Re: The DRESS
i first looked at a lot of real brides' photo and ads in all the wonderful magazines out there. ripping out pages, i kinda saw a trend in what i liked. so i knew , for me, i wanted a poofier dress, strapless, simpler side...you kinda get a feel for what you like and don't like. then i went to SEVERAL shops. trying on every style at least once. i knew off the bat after one mermaid style dress i was too hippy for that, so that x-ed out a bunch...and i think you just kinda narrow the field to a few styles and designers. bringing pictures of looks you like helps the ladies at the shop aid you in getting dresses picked out. and i wouldn't rush. take your time, and make a day of it. or SEVERAL days of looking out of shopping for YOUR dress!

Re: The DRESS
I went in with pictures of dress styles that I liked and told them what I didn't like. They showed me dresses that they thought I would like based on the pictures, which was helpful to see in person what actually looked good on me and what didn't. Then they showed me dresses that they thought would be flattering but were in keeping with the style I wanted.
I went to Wedding Salon of Manhasset (where I ultimately bought my dress), Bridal Reflections in Carle Place, and Kleinfelds--they all had a huge selection. I also went to Amsale and Bridal Atelier in Manhattan.

Re: The DRESS
You can go by pictures you have seen, but they look TOTALLY different on! My dress is nothing like what I would have imagined for myself. I didn't even like it when I saw it, but once I put it on, every dress after that just wasn't the same! I just made an appointment and went! I had ideas in mind, but I was ADAMENT about not wanting strapless - guess what, my dress is strapless!

And make yourself a little shopping pack that you bnring to every appointment-- stockings, a good strapless bra and shoes with heels. Having those things makes all the difference!

Re: The DRESS
I recommend going to places that have a large selection of designers..
Also- if you love any particular designer from the ads-- you should make an appt. there.

Re: The DRESS
My first dress experience was while visiting my MOH in Chicago. We went to the House of Brides and I tried on about 20 dresses. They let you wander the aisles and pick whatever you wanted. I liked it bc there was no annoying salespeople to bug me.
I tried on about 20 dresses and I loved the second to the last one I tried on. I wrote down the info and did a search for it when I came home.
It was a Paula Varsalona dress and it turns out that she has a salon on NYC a few blocks away from my apt. (I never heard of her before). I kept that info in the back of my mind since I wasn't planning on shopping for my dress so early. I wound up getting an email that she was having a sale. I made an appointment and wound up buying the dress! So technically, I guess you can say I never really went dress shopping in NYC!
