THE dress

THE dress

This is something I'm really nervous about! I can't wait to start dress shopping but it gives me such anxiety!
First off, I only want to go with my mom and sister. I'm worried that too many people will bring a mix of opinions that may be ones I don't want to hear.
Also, I want my dress to be a surprise for not only FH, but friends and family too! Is that even possible? lol
Lastly, I'm worried that I won't find 'The ONE'. Or if I do, I'll find like 5 other 'The ONE' dresses.

Is anyone else stressed about THE DRESS?!

ME ME ME!! I am stressed about it. I have the same anxieties you do and plan on my sister and mother only. I don't want too many opinions. I also don't want to be swayed... I want to put it on and it FEEL right. Do you have any idea what you are looking for?

I agree that you shouldn't bring an entire brigade with you, because too many opinions WILL confuse you, and you should be having fun and not worrying about what everybody else thinks.

I went in September to try on dresses and didn't fall in love with anything. I'm actually more concerned that I'm just not going to find 'The One.' I'm just not the kind of person who gets those feelings immediately.

I wanted my dress to be a surprise for everyone too, but my FMIL took pictures of it and now basicly everyone expect FH has seen it... DO NOT LET THEM TAKE PICTURES or atleast not on their phones !

i already went. I don't even have order my dress until next january... but I just wanted to go for fun. I didn't expect to find my dress, but I did!!!

I took my MOH... it was the 2nd dress I tried on. She cried. I cried. The attendent gave me another dress to try on.. then put me back in THE dress.. and I cried again.

Davids Bridal in Lake Grove was AMAZING! I had a great experience!

That's the other thing....I have no clue what I want! How long in advance am I supposed to order it? I really wanted to wait until we booked a venue which will be done by next weekend.

I really don't want to even start looking until I lose weight. I am super insecure when it comes to trying ANYTHING on! For this reason, I almost want to go with just my mom and sister and not include my FMIL. I love her to death, but I don't know if I can deal with her being there while trying on dresses.

I completely understand! I would love to go and look now but I just feel gross! I have been on WW since the 1st and not until I lose at least 15 pounds will I even start the process...

You have to order your dress, I believe 6 months out. You have enough time to book your venue beforehand. My cousin is getting married in October and they told her 6 months was the standard time but she already found hers so she ordered it last month.

The dress is my biggest concern and stress point other then the money situation. I've tried on 50+ dresses and liked 2 a lot but didn't feel that either were the one, I didn't cry, no one else ever cried. I don't know if it's just my mom and sister aren't that emotional or if I just haven't found the perfect dress yet..that I can afford. I'm a perfectionist so I feel it so hard to find something perfect.

I would actually go earlier than that...

I ordered my dress last month for my wedding in December of 2013...and my dress takes 10 months to get in! I've heard of other dresses taking around 6-8 months...so 6 months may be cutting it close, depending on what designer you go with.

According to theknot.com, you should order your dress 9-11 months ahead of time. Since I want a January 2014 wedding that means I have to start looking in the next 4 weeks!!!!

If you're getting married in January, I'd suggest looking now. Try on everything because you never know what you like or what will look good on you from pictures. Don't bring the whole crew with you either- everyone has their own opinions but you need to go with your gut. I ordered mine today and it won't be in until 4/30/13 and then I need 3 fittings so its a long process. If you don't know what you like, try looking now because you never know how long it will take you to find the one. I hope this helps!

I already bought my dress! I went twice a week for six weeks. By the end of the search, I never wanted to see another dress again! My best advice is this: when you think you've found 'the one', go to at least 2 more stores and make sure no other dress gives you the same feeling 'the one' did. I had two that I was really torn between. I'd go back and forth trying both on. Eventually, I went with the one that was more comfortable because I loved the way both looked on me. I definitely agree with you about the number of people you take with you. I only brought my mom to most appts... I brought my Aunt to two appts and it was pure torture bc she was just way too opinionated.... and dont let ANYONE sway you... choose what YOU love.

OH MY GOODNESS! I am not prepared to go looking for dresses. Even more stressed now!!!!

THE dress

I got my dress! I went looking about 4 times and found a few everytime that looked pretty but I could never find ones that looked nice on me AND i felt comfortable in! I'm a plus sized girl and I wanted to feel comfy, I didn't want to worry if my tummy pouch was sticking out all night! I had a horrible experience at Bridal Suite Centereach that I posted where the attendant called me fat and after that I was SO discouraged! Butttttt I kept looking bc it was hard to stop once you started. It was also tough being plus size bc they squeeze you into a size like 10 which is really like a 6 or 8 street clothes and it doesn't go over your butt or hips and you can't get a good idea of how it would look! I finally went to demetrios salon in macys and majority of their sample sizes were a 12 so I could get a better idea. I had a wonderful experience, Charlotte was amazing! I brought my moh and mother and they didnt cry, mostly bc they wanted me to pick a giant cupcake dress they liked but I felt like I had shrunken head syndrome in it and went with my pick! I didn't cry either but I LOVED it! I think shows like Say yes to the dress and Amsale Girls makes us THINK we have to cry! LoL if you feel beautiful and comfortable and can imagine seeing your hubby in it for the first time then it's your dress!! In regard to buying too early, I'm glad I bought early bc 3 months after getting my dress I got preggers! If I hadn't bought it then I'd be at a loss now bc I couldn't try on dresses preggers and get an idea of what size to get! Our daughter is due 7 months before the wedding and I can imagine that for 3 months after I would NOT want to go dress shopping so that would have left me 4 months to order a dress and get it altered! eeep! I also now have motivation to lose the baby weight bc that dress has to fit!! Haha happy shopping!
