I really didn't think that my wedding dress would be as difficult for me as other things. I'm not really stressed, but I went to RK bridal a few months back, with my MOH and BM, and put on this dress that made everyone in the store comment how beautiful it was. I know I will not be emotional about my dress until its my wedding day and I am putting it on for real, so I don't know what to expect when I find 'the one'.
Since then, I've gone to two other stores with my mom, and haven't been able to find anything that really has that 'wow factor'. I keep comparing everything to what I tried on at RK and the reaction I got from people. It's challenging because I want my mom's approval but for one, getting her into the city to see it is easier said than done, and two, I'm terrified she will not think its as beautiful as something else she has already seen me in. I'm also only working with this vague picture in my head, as you aren't allowed to take pictures at RK, but from what I remember, it was amazing. Honestly, I could wear a paper bag to my wedding and just be happy marrying my best friend, but then the other side of me wants it to be amazing.
I've tried to find this sample on LI with no luck, and now I'm having dreams that this dress is 'the one'. I will get back to the city eventually, but I'm as impatient as they come and I hate playing the waiting game!!!
Anyone else have any mixed feelings about dress shopping? I feel like a mess, I'm confused, and I don't know what I'm supposed to be feeling when I put the perfect dress on, lol.
I completely understand how you feel! I wasn't very emotional when i picked mine. I was expected to feel the same way all the brides on 'say yes to the dress' felt! Plus my parents didnt get emotional either! Only my FMIL cried! I Was very surprised. Since purchasing it, i've second guessed myself a million times since i didnt have such an overwhelming reaction. I just tried it on, felt beautiful and figured it was perfect. What's helped me has been watching episodes of shows where the ladies have either tried on my dress or purchased it. Oddly enough, seeing other ladies try on this dress has made me love it even more! It's hard. So much pressure on a dress you wear for a few hours only one day of your life. I keep joking, 'I'd never pick any other outfit over 9 months in advance!!' but it's true!
My best advice would be don't overthink it. If there's a dress you've tried that you love, go in and put it on again with a few friends you trust in tow. Like you said, the most important thing is marrying your best friend. Know you'll be gorgeous no matter what! I hope that helps!

I have the biggest love/hate relationship with my dress...I think it's hard because there's SO many out there and they're all so beautiful and different. I love my dress and know it's the right one for me but always think I should've tried more on. (PS. I didn't get emotional either)
I went shopping for my first dress, and I bought it that day. I was completely swayed by the 'oohs' and 'ahhs' from my family and friends and the random people in the store, plus the store attendants telling me the dress would be discontinued if I didn't order that day. I had my 'bridal moment' and cried and put on the veil and bought it. I had an anxiety attack 5 minutes after we left the store, and cried like every day for the next month knowing I picked the wrong dress.
I wound up buying a new dress 2 months later and lost the deposit on the first one.
Go to as many stores as you need to, and try on as many options as you can until you're happy. Regret is awful! And you still have plenty of time to explore your options.

I have to agree with the 'don't over think it' advice. I put off dress shopping for a really long time because I was afraid that I wouldn't find one that I loved or that by the time the wedding came I would want a different style but when I went I tried on so many but knew after I tried on the first dress that I wouldn't be happy settling for any other dress. When you try on 'the one' you'll know!!

I can totally relate I always thought I would have that 'bridal moment' but I literally was the only one not getting emotional about trying on dresses. Most of the dresses I tried on my facial expression everyone was like 'smile you're trying on wedding dresses' I was more freaking out on will I find one? I finally tried on a dress that made me smile and everyone was like that is it that is your dress. That is the only one I reacted to, I didn't cry or have an epiphany moment or anything I just smiled. Since then all the other dresses I tried on I compare to that dress and I have tried on a lot cause I wanted to be sure. So every time I see the dress I smile. So I am to believe that this is the dress for me. If there is a dress that you have this I feel and look good or smile reaction to that you don't for any other one it is probably your dress. I don't think every bride reacts the same to finding her dress.

I couldn't agree more. I went shopping with my mom yesterday, and she fell in love with this one dress on me. It's the only dress she actually cried for, even when I tried it on a second time! I just wasn't ready to commit to it. It was my first dress shopping experience. I loved part of it, but just couldn't buy it. Not sure I like the pictures I took in it either. I feel like I am also going to have a love/hate relationship with whatever dress I pick.

The best answer to this is that there is no 'right' feeling. Which is the beauty of it! You're always going to see a dress you like. It's not really about finding 'the one' because I'm sure each one us could find dozens of 'the ones.' Ultimately I think it boils down to making a decision. The dress I bought was the 8th one I tried on. I know in my heart I could find another I love just as much as the one I bought. At first this bothered me and had me convinced I picked the wrong one. But I remind myself how great I felt in it and feel better.
I agree with Chaz - go to as many stores as you need to. I went to 6 in total and must have tried on over 30 dresses. Each place I went to, everyone was doing the oohs and ahhs and I liked many I tried on but something was missing. Even when my sister would ask 'can you see yourself walking down the isle in this dress' I'd answer, I guess! Until... I was at Bridal Reflections, my last stop, my heart started beating so fast when I saw myself in my dress and then got emotional when I turned to my mom and sister! You may not get emotional, but I do believe, you'll just know when you have found 'the one'.

I have to agree and take your time and keep looking until you find the dress that gives you that feeling of 'the one'..I went to 4 places until I found 'the one' and I went back 3x with everyone to make sure I was making the right decision and everyone agreed! But ultimately it comes down to how you feel..RK had a lot of beautiful dresses with great prices!

This would 100% happen to me. I'm like 'did we pick the right venue'? haha. Always second guessing!!!

The pictures are such a good point. You stand there in this beautiful dress, and you snap a pic and then look back and say omg, is that what it'll look like. Granted, your hair/makeup/accessories aren't done, but what scares me the most are the photos I'm taking of me in these dresses, and the fact that I wasn't able to get a pic of the dress that everyone loved!! Also, I'm going google crazy trying to see if any other brides have worn it and I have had absolutely no luck, I'm nuts lol.

I had trouble finding my dress, and then it just hit me one day that there will be 2957349587 other dresses that look just like the dress i end up picking.. so once you have that 'aha' moment when you realize that you can look forever and you'll find a million more dresses you love, it becomes easier to pick one dress that looks amazing... I love my dress and love the way it looks, but I can honestly say that there were a few others that looked just as amazing to me... I just picked the one with the detailing I liked best, and never looked anywhere else

I tried on about 60 dresses. DO NOT GIVE UP! I was so discouraged through the process. I knew I wouldnt cry but let me tell you when its the one, you know its the one. Try on different styles. The dress I ended up with is completely different then what I invisioned or pinned on pinterest lol

So, I literally just bought my dress today. I didn't try on that many I never thought I'd get emotional about a dress, or that I would really know which dress was the one, but it happened today! Totally out of the blue, a random stop on my way home from another dress store and it was just so gorgeous I wanted to cry. It's something I never envisioned myself in, but it's perfect! Don't give up!

I bought my dress less than 2 weeks ago after going only to 1 store. The Fifth Dress I tried on – it was mine. Mermaid design looked horrible on me, so I went with the princess style – adjusted A-line or whatever the wording is. I was so hesitant to buy because until that time, I only checked pictures online and haven’t tried anything else. But I was with my mom and she made me feel so comfortable, when I walked with her in the dress, the sales rep took pictures. I kept looking at them all week and when I check them sometimes, I know that I made the right decision. Don’t overthink anything and don’t take too many people with you to dress shop as different people have different styles and opinions…When you find the right dress, you will just know because you would be able to see yourself wearing it at your wedding.
