The Grossest Grossness that ever Grossed!

HONG KONG (Reuters) - A Hong Kong hiker washed her face in a freshwater stream, not noticing that leech had wormed its way into one of her nostrils, according to the Hong Kong Medical Journal.



Unaware she was playing host to the creature, the 55-year-old woman only consulted a doctor when her nose started bleeding intermittently about two weeks later.

The unusual case occurred in 2003 but doctors highlighted it in this month's edition of the journal, where they discussed how to remove live leeches from human nasal passages using anesthesia.

The first doctor the woman saw could not find anything wrong and it was only when she visited a second doctor that he saw the five-centimeter (two-inch) leech peeking out of her left nostril.

According to the article, doctors only managed to remove the stubborn bloodsucker with forceps after applying anesthesia to the woman's nose.

'Direct removal of a live leech might be difficult because of its powerful attachment to the mucosa and its slimy and mobile body,' the journal said.

I just threw up a little in my mouth. And I'm considering sealing up my nasal passages!

I think I'm gonna hurl.

Note to self: no washing face in stream. no hiking or camping just to be on the safe side.

Yuuuccckkkkkk!!!! I remember that part! I don't know what was worse - that leech part or the blueberry pie contest where everybody vomited blueberries

And that hiker must've had nostrils as big as the Lincoln Tunnel to NOT FEEL A 2 inch leech crawl up there!!!

I dont know about you but even a booger bothers me! How did she not FEEL that???

That's what I was thinking. How could you NOT feel a living thing crawling around in your nostril?

it made me think of 2 things actually - Stand By Me,

AND one of the Judy Blume books (can't remember which one), but the girl always does a rubics cube w/ her grandma, i think?

Anyway, there's a part of the book where the girl goes to drink her strawberry shake, but instead, the straw goes up her nose and cuts the inside of it.

Since I read that, I CRINGE everytime someone talks about something up/in a nose!!!

Must run and puke now..thanks for that memory now embedded in my head which Im sure I'll recall on days when the bordeom sets in and grossness slips to the forefront of my mind!
