I just heard this on the radio. I have to get to Bethpage by 8 for my final fitting
( I don't usually take LIRR)
I don't mind taking the subwayto queens, but people get all crazy when there is any change in the communtign pattern.

Re: The Lirr and nj transit (fire in the east river tunnel).

here's what I have:

AMTRAK ADVISING POWER CONDITION IMPACTING SERVICE INTO PENN STATION. FDNY ADVISING CONFIRMED EXPLOSION AND FIRE IN TRANSFORMER IN TUNNEL APPROACHING PENN STATION. FIRE STILL BURNING. TWO TRAINS WERE STUCK IN TUNNELS. A WORK TRAIN WAS BACKED OUT OF THE EAST RIVER TUNNEL INTO QUEENS WHERE ALL CREW MEMBERS WERE ACCOUNTED FOR AND EVALUATED BY FDNY. A SECOND TRAIN FROM NEW JERSEY TRANSIT WAS BACKED OUT OF THE NORTH RIVER TUNNEL INTO NEW JERSEY. OVER 500 PASSENGERS ONBOARD BEING EVALUATED BY PERSONNEL AT THAT LOCATION. UNKNOWN INJURIES. SERVICE TO LONG ISLAND AND TO PENN TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED.

Fire affecting Penn Station originated from transformer at 33rd St and !st Ave. Police Activity there as well. Penn Station is not being evacuated, however, they are not permitting entry to prevent a crowding condition since no trains are running
