The masks are here!!!!!
But not without controversy, naturally lol.
After much strife over these masks, they FINALLY arrived today, and all day at work I was anxiously waiting to come home to see them.
So I open up the package, and my mask and the favor sized masks for the cake table are GORGEOUS. I couldn't be happier with the way they came out, they're beyond cool. I wasn't aware that the favor sized ones come on sticks, so I'll have to get white florist foam blocks to stick them in, but other than that, no hidden surprises and awesome quality.
And then I opened up FH's mask, and got SO upset. The gold detailing is raised on the mask, and painted over the raised lines. Same as mine. Only this one was ridiculously sloppy. The paint bled off the raised details on to the background of the mask, and it looks like the painter didn't have a steady hand at all. Either it was shellacked before the gold was dry, or everything was still wet when it was packed, because it's just all smudged and messy looking. Even the white inside the left eyebrow is showing some of the black from underneath, like each layer wasn't dried before the next step was painted. It's a little hard to tell in the pics, but can you see the difference between the quality of the two full sized masks?
I already sent an email to the owner informing her that I wasn't happy with this one mask, explained what it looked like, and asked what can be done about it. Their policy is that they will return or exchange but it will take 4 weeks, and I'd have to send it back first. To say that I don't trust doing that is the understatement of the year. I would be willing to send this mask back after I received a new one, because I don't want this one, it's really not up to quality standards, but I think they'd trust me to do that just as much as I'd trust them to actually send a new one once I send this back.
This is all assuming I ACTUALLY get a reply to the email. What do you think I should do? Try to exchange it for a new one, or just s/uck it up and be done with this whole ordeal with them? This has been my most annoying and frustrating vendor experience so far, and I should probably just deal with it and cut my loss. But the mask was $58 dollars, not cheap, and I don't feel that one in this condition is worth that. The others are all so beautiful, it's a real shame.
