Yesterday my gram was showing me the outfit she got for my wedding (she's so cute, I haven't even gotten mine yet) and I came across a gorgeous light blue dress with a matching top (kind of like a three quarter sleeve suit jacket, but more flowy than an actual suit jacked would be) and I told her how much I loved it. She said that the MOG wears blue, said 'wouldn't FH's mom be mad if I wore blue?' I have never heard of this and was wondering whether anyone else has...I'm planning on having my mom wear blue also (if BMs wear navy, mom wears royal, or if BMs wear royal, mom wears navy).

Re: The MOG wears blue?
Never heard of this. My mom wore blue, MIL wore green.
ETA: I also don't subscribe to the notion the MOB/MOG have to match/coordinate with the bridal party.

I think that is an old tradition...not so much now.

I don't either, I just really love blue dresses. But if my mom finds a dress in another color that she loves, that's totally fine.

MOG is wearing blue and my mom is wearing purple. MOG is just wearing blue bc we thought it would look nice with my mom wearing purple

Re: The MOG wears blue?
Technically, the MOB is supposed to choose her color first. Then the MOG is supposed to choose a diff color. Then the grandmothers can pick their dresses. But I have never heard anything about the MOG is supposed to wear blue (although my dad's mom did to my parents wedding and my FMIL is going to wear blue to my wedding).

Okay cool, just didn't want you to feel like you HAD to coordinate with them!

Yeah....I thought so too....but FMIL jumped the gun and didn't tell me (I told her I would tell her what my mom picked when she picks it). Now both MOB and MOG are in navy chiffon

Re: The MOG wears blue?
I think that is old school...my grandmother on my father's side wore baby blue to my parents wedding. I think today's traditions are very loose....I know some give the mother of bride the option to pick the color first and then the other woman pick but otherwise I think the color choices are not that critical anymore.

Re: The MOG wears blue?
my BMs wore teal
my mom wore navy
my nana wore cobalt blue
and my FAIL (don't have a FMIL) wore purple.
I've never heard of that tradition before, but I have heard of that the MOB are to wear a color in the family of the BMs dresses.

Re: The MOG wears blue?
The MOB gets to pick the color first then the MOG. But either are limited to color choices
