I always hear about it, but what exactly is the mystery of the Leonard's cake? Is it too small? Does it taste bad? Do they give you a cake other than the one you ordered? What is it?? What could I do to get around this problem?

Re: The mystery of the Leonard's Cake
I have no clue, but I do know that at some RH's the cake that they present to you, only one layer is real, this is the layer that you cut into, and the rest of the cake is not real, its Styrofoam with icing on it.
Then they take to the back and act like they cut it up into pieces when they really have a sheet cake already prepared the way you ordered, and they serve that to your guest.
And THAT, Ginabambina88, may be the mystery of the Leonards Cake.

I'm not 100% sure, you should call your RH and ask.

Re: The mystery of the Leonard's Cake
I've seen it before. It's small. Here are some pics I found on the review board. I'm not sure which one is free or which one is the upgrade.
awww man, I definitely don't want a small cake.... if you get an upgrade, do you think they'll make it bigger like a regular wedding cake? What exactly is involved with the upgrade?

I'm not sure the only thing I know about the upgrade is whether you want fondant or not.

Many places used to do that way back in the day Now, you need to mention this to your BM to make sure you are getting layers or REAL cake
