So today Kristina and I took a trip tot he good ol' social security office today to change our names. It was very easy...all we needed was our marriage certificate. We came wth all sorts of crazy documents to prove our identities and they didnt look at a darn thing! The whole process took about 3 minutes but the wait time was well over an hour! Do yourself a favor if you go to the office and get there when it opens!
I am now officially a drinkwater...good god!

Nice!!! I was planning on going tomorrow during my lunch break but maybe I should rethink that considering I only get an hour. Which location did you go to? Do you know what time they stay open until?

i went to patchogue...i would suggest going on a day when you can go right in the morning..not sure what time they close..sorry!

yayyyy! It wasn't as bad as everyone makes it seem, was it? I thought it was going to be a pain but it was a breeze at SS. I haven't had the time to do my license yet since I can't take off from work, but I'm sure that'll be just as easy!

Oh wow thats awesome to hear!!! The stuff that will really be a pain in the butt, is changing bank accounts, credit cards and all those things right?

Yes I did mine today too at Mineola and was in and out in about an hour. I tried the DMV but the line was waaaaaay too long so I gave up.

What kind of crazy documents did you bring? I live in the Patch right now, so I was thinking of going down there next week (since I don't have a copy of my marriage license yet). Why didn't they look at the things you brought with you?

I went to the West babylon one a few weeks ago and waited for over two hrs. Def go first thing and dont go on your lunch break you will never get back in time.

Dont go until you get your marriage certificate because they wont do it...I brough my license, birth certificate, parents social security info...it said you need that online! lol

you can do this by mail. they have the form you can print on their website and all you send is a copy of ur marriage license with ur new name and they send u a new card.

So happy for you. I was at the bank yesterday and asked the Customer Service Rep about name changes etc. She told me to change my ss first and then everything should be easy.
