'The Namesake' by Jumpha Lahiri

Anyone read this? I just finished it - it was so awesome - anyone want to discuss?

It's been on my books to read list for almost two years. I promise to get to it by July (hiatus = lots of time to read) and we'll chat about it.

Loved this book, read it on my honeymoon - DH read it also. Lahiri is a great writer.

Didn't you feel the novel was more like a series of short stories? I know her 1st book was short stories, and this is her second, she is still in the genre, it seems...

It's funny, because when I was reading it I didn't think that at all, but thinking back on it after reading your comment, I see what you're saying, each chapter sort of stands on it's own as a short story, but I think that they really supported each other in creating an interesting story arc. I'm a big fan of short stories, so I'm looking forward to going back and reading her first book, but I find that when reading short stories you feel fine putting the book down when the story is over, but with this book I didn't want to stop when the chapter ended, I wanted to keep reading until the book was over.

me, too. On one hand I like when books wrap everything up at the end, but I really like that at the end I got to imagine what his life would be like after that.
