OK girls, so I am TRYING to do our seating arrangements and would you believe I have people REQUESTING WHERE they want to sit!!! I'm hearing things like, '...I will come but don't sit me next to so and so...' or 'Do you mind if we sit together?' etc etc. Have people gone mad!!! Is this common? Are they for real?? I don't think I'd ever request where to sit at a wedding!! Am I wrong or is this crazy??

Oh, I have heard my family make requests for sitting as well when my sisters got married. I think it is ballsey and the first call I get I am putting them right in their place. I remember my cousin actually called my sister and said to sit her with so and so and be sure their table is close to bar so they dont have to walk far. I guess every family has them. Sit there where you want, it is your wedding. Dont drive yourself nuts trying to please everyone.

Don't change your seating arrangements. This is too crazy!
They can move out of their assigned seat and go talk to whoever they want during the reception.

I think people are nuts and I totally agree with you. It's not their day and for them to make your life difficult by requesting where they want to sit is very selfish of them. Be adults and suck it up and sit where you are put! I wouldn't go crazy over it... they will sit where they sit!!

You're not wrong, it is crazy, but . . . here is a story from my FSIL's wedding more than 15 years ago:
FH's cousin was upset/pi$$ed or whatever that he wasn't seated with FH's mom at FSIL's wedding. Want to know what he did? He played musical chairs, and basically grabbed his place setting (and that of his wife) and their chairs and forced themselves onto FMILs table.
Guess where I'm sticking FH's cousin at our wedding? You guessed it - with FMIL. I just don't need people taking things into their own hands the day of and causing disruption and blocking walkways because they moved chairs etc.

ILLLLL! WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE???? My MIL tried pulling that, fortunately, we had to drop off the seating cards at the hall pretty early, so it was a done deal.

I hear about this all the time!!!! People are just so rude!!!! Sit everyone where you want them to be seated, you shouldn't have to take requests from your guests...if they don't want to come b/c they don't want to sit next to someone, then they shouldn't come! Really what grade are we in? Can't wait to do mine

My one cousin and her mother don't get along so my cousin (who is older and closer to my dad than me; I don't even talk to her ever) said that she wants to be seated with her sisters, away from her mother.
I'm like ***** please! I wouldn't sit her near her mother anyway but that's besides the point. Who is she to tell my family where to put her?!

Yes, I have had- I dont get along with so and so - so please dont put us near each other and I really cant talk and relax in front of so and so- so dont put me near them. My FSIL said that at her wedding - a cousin on my FH's side didnt like where he was sitting so he moved his date and himself - plates and all to the table where he wanted to sit- it was a table for 10 and he squeezed in making it 12 at the table all crowded!! I am not looking forward to this!!

Oh yeah, I've gotten all the ridiculous requests too. My cousin actually called me two days ago specifically for the purpose of asking me not to seat her with her parents...I wasn't planning on it anyway, but now I might do it just to spite her After all, she sat me with my parents at her wedding!

i would explain how difficult the job is to do seating and then tell whomever that you'll do the best you can.
