The nerve .....(vent)

The nerve .....(vent)

I am astonished at the number of people that have the nerve to ask if they are invited to the wedding. A co-worker of mine said ' So, am I not invited to the wedding.' I replied 'No.' and he got upset. He said that he always thought that he was going to be a part of our wedding. This is a person that I have nothing to do with outside of work. We are co-workers, that's it. He actually irritates the crap out of me. What makes people think that they are entitled to come to your wedding? AM I the only one that is annoyed by this?

No you are not the only one. I dont have the same situation at all, but I can understand why you are upset.

I think that is very rude to ask of someone...I haven't had that situation arise yet...but a friend of mine did....she got so annoyed she ended up printing extra invites for the Church Ceremony only and sent those to the people at work.....when they asked why they weren't invited to the reception she replied that was only for close friends and family.

Argh! Some people are so tacky!!! Where do they get off assuming they are invited? And then asking about it!

How outrageously RUDE!!! That would make me so mad!
I've made it a point not to discuss the wedding with anyone at work, because I'm not planning to invite any of my co-workers. It's exactly that type of situation I'm trying to avoid!

No, you are not alone! I had someone I socialize with come up to me at a club and ask 'so where is my engagement party invitation?' I don't even have her phone number. SHe is a friend of a friend and we go out in groups a lot. I felt totally trapped and invited her- and SHE DIDN'T EVEN COME!! I like her and she is very sweet, but people have some strange sense of entitlement.

You're not alone! I've had a two people say 'So what are the dates of all the festivies so I can mark them on my calendar.' One girl was someone I did a musical with over 2 years ago, who I haven't talked to since closing night, who heard about the engagement through the grapevine. The other was a co-worker I have actually only had phone interaction with. We've never even met!!!! I guess it should be taken as a compliment that these people want to be there. I still think it's a little weird though.

I'm sure alot of people just say it jokingly...My UPS driver here at work asked where her invite was...I assume she was kidding.

Yeah, some peole have said it as a joke, but this person was dead serious. I guess it is a compliment, but I felt SOOOOOO uncomfortable.

I cant believe the nerve of some people!

On the other hand, I had a co-worker tell me that if I needed to cut some people out of the guest list, I could cut him out and he would understand. How noble!!!

yeah, i have 1 person here I fear may say it as a semi joke, but he was invited to soemoen else & didn't go, so i thin I'd be safe, but I'm not inviting him.
I try & noly mention the wedding to people I know I am going to invite, but obviously in a small office everybody knows.

I would just say, 'No, we were really trying to keep it small'

I hear you. FH & I actually had someone ask us if he can be a groomsman!!!!! Because he knows us forever. No he doesn't--We just met him about a year ago! He is a friend of a friend--& the person who we are closer to we don't see very often & he isn't even invited!!!! Some people are so inconsiderate! I flat out told this guy that WE ask people to be in our wedding party--you can't put in a request

I understand ... My rule is now if you invite yourself you cant come. At one point I added a little note in my AOL profile that said 'We love you, but we cant invite everyone. We are only inviting ppl we have regular contact with ...blah blah' And someone called me the next day to ask if we can 'get together' since he 'loves to be in regular contact with us'

It was so annoying

I've had to deal with some of that. One girl I knew from college was e-mailing me months ago telling me about the new dress she got for the wedding....I had to e-mail her and politely tell her while I'm touched by her enthusiasm about the wedding that she will not be inivited (i did this VERY nicely). People are just so presumptuous!
