So yesterday at my sister's graduation from BU, he was the special guest and they played the Afganistan national anthem. Do you think if she would have graduated at NYU, the same thing would have been done? Is this still too soon? People clapped yesterday for John Kerry, but the Pres. of Af. got a standing ovation twice.
ETA: there were also snipers, at least 6 of them that I saw on roof tops. It made me feel incredibly uneasy

I don't know. That's really odd.
FH's graduation speaker was Bono, so they played U2 music, actually throughout the graduation, it was pretty cool
ETA: sorry, that was way random of me. I don't know what to think about what you described.

that's, its okay I am a fan of any random speaking. I don't know what to think either. Then a few guys were waving the Afgan flag. I just don't think it would have happened in NY yet.

If I had been there I really wouldn't know exactly how to react. I really don't know that much about him, so...

Definitely too soon for that, IMO.
ETA: At least in NY.

apparently he is loved a whole lot in Boston. he is the first pres. to ever be elected there, and his father was killed by the taliban. So I know he is not a terrorist, just weird that people in that country were cheering on 9/11, and now 4 years later, we are standing to their nat'l anthem.

I don't think he has anything to do with 9/11, so to me, I don't think NY or 'too soon is applicable (in my mind), but I think it's weird in general to go nuts over the president of another country and to stand for their national anthem

Re: The New President of Afganistan
BU must have a 'thing' with asking world leaders to speak...for my BU graduation in 2001, the university speaker was the Governor of Puerto Rico! (Amazing lady, BTW...I still remember her speech.)
What BU school did your sister graduate from? I'm a Sargent grad, myself.
(Edited for clarity)
