Supposedly I’m due on January 25th, but little Madeleine’s room still isn’t set up yet. Our office is being transformed into her little room, but unfortunately, it’s still an office. My husband didn’t get a chance to move the big furniture out of that room this weekend because of the snow storm, so that pushed the painting back. We also just emptied out our storage space because we’re storing things at his parent’s summer home… well that stuff has found itself in what should be Madeleine’s room as well. It’s really bothering my husband because he’s all excited about decorating and painting her room in a Dr. Seuss fashion, but can’t do anything until the room is cleared...
A co-worker asked me if we set up her nursery yet, and I told her what was going on… after I told her, it started to bother me. I hear all these stories about the nursery being all set up and ready for baby… and here we are… her space is still an office. How terrible is that?
Okay, my question is… Is there anyone out there as big of a procrastinator as I am?

Re: The nursery
The most important thing YOU can do right now is give yourself a break! The nursery being ready is NOT more important than your health and the baby's. Stress is not good, and that's all you're going to feel if you don't calm down.
If it makes you feel ANY better - Paul did not have his own 'room' until he was 1 yr old. We lived in a small apartment when he was first born, and he slept in a portable crib right next to Mommy's side of the bed.
Then we were living 'in limbo' at my parent's house for almost 9 mos. until we closed on our house and were able to move in. It was 2 weeks before Paul's 1st bday.
So....if you cannot get it done before the baby comes, please don't beat yourself up. The most important thing to that baby is YOU and her DADDY - not a fancy room with matching linens. Believe me, I'm not belittling your desires...b/c I definitely felt sad about not being able to have an official 'nursery' set up either. I am just saying that it's not the end of the world, and you will make do with whatever you can in the meantime.

Re: The nursery
Jen, you are not the only procrastinator out there -- I was the biggest one!!! When I went into labor, I had just gotten the furniture the day before and NOTHING WAS READY AT ALL FOR THE BEAR CUB!!!! All my gifts were still in my dining room -- the only thing I did do was wash some clothes beforehand (thank God)!! My mother and MIL helped set everything up before I got home!!!!!
And I don't have a separate room as the nursery either. We set up Gianna's 'room' on the other side of our room (it's one big huge room, it used to be 2 small bedrooms). We put up a room divider and her room looks like her room and our side looks like our room. It's working so far.
Claud is 100% right and told me the same thing when I was freaking over the room not being separate or done!!!
Don't worry, as I was told a million times, it will all work out in the end!!!

Re: The nursery
Don't worry abou tthis but I can completely understand about wanting thigns set up. I always do things the opposite way than my husband...I like to do it EARLY!
There are about 5 weekends between now and 1/25. Tell hubby to invite over some handy and strong friends and get the room done in a weekend. Then have some girlfriends or mom and mil over to help with setting up the closet/drawers/making up the crib. You be surprised who will come to help when you tell them it's for the nursery.
good luck!

Re: The nursery
Nicolas' room wasn't ready until he was 2 weeks old, so don't sweat it.

Re: The nursery
you and i are cut from the same mold. we MUST make a playdate for Madeline and Baby It in the Spring.
I am such a psycho with the nesting thing. I want that nursery done so badly. We did empty it out, the rug is in, it's painted and the crib and changing table are in. The armoire is still on backorder from potterybarnkids. I am ahead of you with the actual set up - but I still feel like a million things need to be done - the closet is FILLED to capacity with all our JUNK including just like boxes of halloween costumes and random speaker equipment. All the closets in the house are like that actually and of course i want every single one cleaned out -
Get this - I bought mini chalkboards for the inside of each closet door to write what is in there when they are all organized! That is how nuts I am ! It's nesting mixed with 'not allowed to move anything' that is making me half crazed.
Just make a list and try to take a day to get things organized. Once you do even a little - WITH YOUR HUSBAND - DON'T MOVE ANYTHING AT ALL! - you'll feel better!

Re: The nursery
honestly, all you need is the baby's bassinet set-up near your bed and you are good to go.
Molly's room took us a while to get cleaned out, cleared out and painted. I just ordered her crib set since we didn't know which set to order (gender specific) and the muralist will be here on Saturday. But honestly, Molly has never even been in her room really. She stays with us in our room for now. So even if it isn't 'perfect' when you come home it is still okay.

Re: The nursery
My friend didn't have her son's room done until after his birth. First, they didn't know the sex and wanted a definate boy or girl room so they waiting on that. Plus the baby won't even be in their own room for a few months so you've got plenty of time.

Re: The nursery
I just feel bad... so far we only have a cradle and we're putting that in our bedroom... so at least she has a place to sleep. But that's all she has... well, that and all the books that I keep buying for her.

Don't fell bad. My room isn't done either and I am due Jan 4. I know what I am ordering. Because we don't know if its a or a , I am procrastinating on ordering the furniture.
