Yes a date is good idea......something to work towards always helps. My E-Party is 6/7, maybe i can be well on my way to quitting by then. That would be nice.

If you are really serious about quitting - I believe NY State provides a starter kit that helps you to start the journey of a smoke free life. They give you free patches and gum... and they even call you every week to see how you are doing.

I quit a few years ago so I know how tough it is but stick with it girls! You can do it! Think about how much money you'll save and how much better you'll smell and how much healthier you'll be! Good luck!

It's so hard when FH smokes 2-3 packas a day Now I'm starting to smoke a lot more than normal. He says we'll both quit for his birthday, but we'll see....

Exactly! My FH smokes about 1-2 packs a day and I find myself smoking a lot more!
I really need to stop!

whats hard for me is that my parents smoke so if i ever feel the urge to smoke, they are always in the house.....its not like i would feel like a jerk buying a whole pack when i only have a craving. Makes it so hard.
AND FH and I found 2 bars in our area that they let you smoke in, so that makes it hard too........

I quit 4 years ago but had a relapse a few weeks ago. I did like it when I inhaled the smoke but after I felt so guilty and I smelled like smoke-had oily skin and my throat felt phelmy. So I have not went back .See stress can turn you to cigarettes-it did it to me after 4 years of not touching one. I swear this time I will notgo back. Good luck girls and you can do it-I know it is not easy believe me.

CONGRATS to everyone who's decided to quit. It's the hardest thing EVER. I quit in November last year....I still have one once in awhile when I go out drinking but have not 'started back up again.'
What worked for me was...running/working out alot. It helped that I could actually BREATHE when I did it and didn't have to worry about gaining weight from quitting. It was also a good stress reliever...since before that I used smoking as a stress reliever.
I also treated myself frequently. I would get manicures...go shopping...spend the money you would normally spend on smoking on something else. That helped!
I also chewed ALOT of gum and drank alot of water (I don't know why with the water but it helped!) Chewing on straws may sound weird but it actually helped when I was having a hardcore craving.
I never actually set a 'quit date'. I just went to the store one night to buy a pack and bought a pack of gum instead I don't know why...but I haven't bought a pack since!
One thing I wouldn't reccommend- those blue packs of cigarettes with very little nicotine. I tried that- they taste awful!!
Good luck girls!

I really need to quit. I tried the patches but they didn't work too well for me. Maybe i'll try the gum. Has anyone tried the ariva stuff-i think thats what it's called. Its like a breathmint with nicotine in it so you get the nicotine but not the smoke. I need to try something else! Id like to quit by the end of the summer

i was just talking to one of my friends and she said that a friend of hers brushed her teeth everytime she had a craving

I will be needing this as well. While I only smoke a few a day (mostly after work & the gym). I am having a hard time with it.
