The Official WICKED THREAD>>>>Book Discussion!!!

Hello Ladies and Welcome !!!!
I'm so excited to chat with everyone about this book..
I have to admit it was very difficult to get through and the lanaguage was over the top. Sometimes I wanted to grab this guy and force him to use an everyday word!!!

I did like Elphie..she was a great character who just seemed to be in the wrong for things that weren't her fault. Shocking ending with the Wizard as her natural father!!!

I didn't like the heavy political overtone...the wIzard being like a hitler..the civil rights and just causes for Animals..yes not animals...

I wanted more tie ins to the orignial story..the scene where she's drunk and thinks 'Surrender Dorothy' was very clever..as if she wrote that in a drunken stooper...

I'm not a huge fanatsy reader at all so the whole Time Clock Dragon was bizzarre to me..I know what it was supposed to represent, but dificult to connect unitl the end.

And what the hell was up with the sex club? Was it neseccary?

I get the Yackle..that looming sense of doom that fate somehow plays a hand in all our lives...

What did you ladies think?

I enjoyed the book too. The language was a bit much...

I have no idea why the sex club scene was written in, it really had no bearing on the story.

I agree that the sex club thing seemed out of place. I think it was just to show how corrupt things could really get.

As an avid Wizard of Oz fan, I was also disappointed that they didn't tie more in.

If you see the musical (which I highly recommend) they rework almost the entire story to fit in more with the original version - more commercial that way.

I love that she uses oils her whole life to avoid water.

I spent the first few chapters when they were at University annoyed that Greg Maguire changed Glinda to Galinda and was relieved when they explained the change.

So in the end, does this make you think people are born Wicked or made that way by their circumstances?

I think part of it was her circumstances and being ostracized because she was different all her life.

The book was an interesting look at her life... you will never watch the Wizard of oz in the same way again... its almost as if you have some compassion for Elphie.

agree...I also feel like so much mirrors life..you do what you have to do..sometimes evil is b/c of the circumstances or the way other percieve you...
I always think of some of my kids form whne I worked in Roosevelt that had no choice but to join gangs to survive..very extreme circumstances..but that was my connection..

I agree that I don't look at the WWof the W the same anymore. It's so strange. I have lots of Wizard of Oz collectibles and I look at her now and think 'she was just misunderstood!!' I'm so weird!!

Who was everyone's favorite character?

Can someone explain this thing?
I never made it to the end.
The story was good, but I kept getting bored.

hrmm My main ideas

-I liked Elphie
-Wish that Liir gets to take his father's place, assuming it's the Prince
-Think Glinda is played out to be an ditz
-I think Nessarose was hated for trying to be good? I really dont get that.. did they WANT to revolt or not?

Overall it had a lot of little story lines (the Animals, looking for forgiveness, finding her soul, not being a pawn to Ms Morrible) that you being to wonder what the purpose of the book was.

I don't think I'd recommend this as much as others seemed to give me the impression. *shrug* Wasn't disappointed to have read it, but I would have been annoyed if I had only this to read on a beach. It's a little frustrating.

Yeah, how about all that SEX! hehe
