Band or DJ or buring your own CDs?

I wouldn't have any idea...It might be easier to give your DJ or band of list of songs you definately want played and then let him fill in the rest of the songs himself rather than pic every song. He'll be able to tell the flow of the party and keep it jumping!!

Are you going to give him the absolute list, the only songs the DJ can play? I think it would be easier if you told him exactly what you dont want played, a lot easier on you

I am telling the DJ what I want played.....

I just wanted some idea of how many songs!

I have a cute idea to tell the DJ!!!
Have him play 'Be Our Guest' from Beauty & the Beast when they are serving dinner. FH and I heard it at a wedding and loved it! Of course we told our DJ to do it for us.

Re: The party is 5 hrs..

if the average song is 3 minutes and the party is 300 minutes (less non-music time) you might want to think about 75 - 90 songs, IMHO

Re: The party is 5 hrs..

Most of the time you just give the DJ a variety of selections and he/she then plays what is working and fitting in with your crowd. Normally you don't give them a play by play list. They just want a general sense of what you want played and your 'special' highlighted songs.

A good DJ should know what to play, besides what you provide him with

Re: The party is 5 hrs..

I don't care what he wants to play..

Its my party and I want the music I selected played...........

Plus I know the crowd better then he would!

Re: The party is 5 hrs..

Let's say an average song is 4- 5 minutes- maybe 10-12 songs per hour x 5 hours. 50-60 songs I am guessing.

T, you have to try to give him a little freedom so he doesn't mess up the mixing....

Re: The party is 5 hrs..

So if you want give him the song lists to make sure to fill up the hours.. but also tell him for 'mixing' purposes he can add here and there. . .
Otherwise it might sound chocky. Get what I'm saying?

I am just telling him this is what I want..

Mix and play however HE WANTS!

Theresa I would pick 75-90 songs like NYC suggested that way even if he plays less songs because time runs out, at least they are the songs you selected.

Re: The party is 5 hrs..

for the 4 hours we had our dj...he said about 80 songs would be played...including first dance and cake and father/daughter and dinner etc etc...

so he asked me to limit my must play list to about 20...

but if its for your e-party...I would think 80...and then minus time for speeches...
