The Pill

The Pill

I have read a few postings about women getting pregnant while taking the pill. I'm on Yasmin and and have been on the pill for about 2 and a half years. I have no intention of getting pregnant before my wedding and really want to wait until after that. However, on the other side and this may sound silly - being that we've never had an 'accident' all this time which I really am greatful for but - should I be worried that I can't conceive? Any thoughts on this matter? Just curious - I'm over 30 and they say that your fertility drops really low after 30 to begin with.

If you've been on the pill, I wouldn't worry about your fertility. Accidents happen, but they are very uncommon -- and often they happen with some human error (such as not using backup when on antibiotics or missing a pill). 30 is still a very healthy age for conception. I don't think things become much more difficult until after 35.

It's funny you should say that but I have been obsessed with that. I was on the pill for about 5 years and for the past year and half I have been on the patch and I am convinced that I can't conceive. I know it sounds rediculous but you're not alone I worry about the exact same thing!!!!!!!!

Well, on the good note - my MOH was on the pill for many, many years and at 33 she is due to have her first baby in May! It just does feel wierd to know that you are doing the 'act' and yet could a tiny little pill or patch be what's keeping you from the result - don't feel alone jaclyncalderon - I totally obsess over my future fertility - almost to a fault! My FH has asked me if I actually ENJOY worrying about things!

I'm glad I'm not alone in this one. I'm on the pill so I'm not looking to conceive obviously but every once in awhile I get a little careless then I start worrying that I won't be able to conceive so why am I wasting my time with these darn pills!

I wouldn't worry too much over it (although I did too ). I am 34 and was on the pill for years (with no accidents) and thought it would take a long time to conceive (if I even could). We decided I would go off the pill and it would take a while before we would conceive...........WELL, I got two periods and I was pregnant. SOOOOOOOO try not to make yourself crazy over it

Re: The Pill

No no no... don't worry about infertility if you are on the pill. I was on it for over 5 years with no 'accidents' until I got PG on the HM. And yes, there was human error involved and I told my Drs but they were still surprised that I was able to get PG like that.

Your chances of conceiving in any given 'normal' cycle -- even if you BD at exactly the right time -- is still only supposedly 20% !!!(though I beg to differ with that ) And that's with doing everything exactly right!!

So don't worry about your fertility. Also, it's a misconception that your fertility 'drops really low' after 30. The truth is that your fertility BEGINS to drop more rapidly or noticeably after 30. Technically, your fertility begins to decline slightly at around 26, I believe. But like someone else said, 30 is still a perfectly healthy age to conceive.

You'll be fine!!

Don't worry! I was on the pill for 6 years, never a single accident. I, for no particular reason, was concerned that I'd have problems conceiving. Well, I went off the pill, and one month later I was pregnant. Miscarried, and two weeks later I was pregnant again. Remember, the pill is 99% effective, so there's a VERY good reason why you're not getting pregnant!!!
