The Plaza, The Gates and Sock Monkeys, OH MY!! PS: I found my frog ...

So I woke up on Saturday, my 37th birthday, with two zits on my chin and one on my forehead ... THIRTY SEVENTH, not SEVENTEENTH!!!! Oh well!

The Plaza was nice ... tourists EVERYWHERE!!! The lobby was always packed, the line for the Palm Court was constant - never saw it shorten. The room like most older places you stay in Manhattan was SMALL but good enough for spending a night ...




Ah, The Gates ... well, the park was PACKED like I've never seen before in my life!! What The Gates gave me an understanding of ... women who kill their spouses. Two seconds into the park, GG is all 'Oh this is changing my life. It's bringing the world together. I will never be the same ... ' . I have mentioned what a sarcastic PITA my dear hubby is, right??





On to the monkeys!!!! We met friends for dinner at Blockhead (a burrito place on 34th & 3rd where she & I used to do dinner once a month or so when I worked in the city). We started going to a different one uptown when she moved, so we hadn't been to this one in about four years or so. They had renovated a little ... the menu had a sock monkey on the cover. The back cover was a bio on Claire the sock monkey (I can't really remember her story, there were a lot of margaritas). There were sock monkey portraits all over the room. The waiters had sock monkey t-shirts (there was a sign T-SHIRTS $10, but they were all out ).




We did our best monkey impression:



I really must have been celebrating because not only did I have flan with a candle in it & the waiters sing me Happy Birthday, I later had cheesecake at the Oak Bar back at The Plaza.

Oh, so you ask ... 'What about your frog???'

That Hopkin is quite a little piggy, trying to scarf your birthday cheesecake!

Those are GREAT pics Wendy! Looks like you guys had a great day! BTW, my PITA DH would have said the same thing about the Gates!!

I too am disappointed about the legwarmers and fishnets... But very happy to see that Hopkin had such a good time - was it your birthday or his? And was GG annoyed that Hopkin had to sleep between the two of you at the Plaza???

PS: Now that you've found him, you'd better hold onto that frog (Hopkin that is, not GG! ) He looks like he was just dying to make a run for it and I bet he sure is slippery!!!!

Was Hopkin transformed by the magical power of art?

Hopkin owned NYC this weekend!



ETA: was the 2nd Blockhead's the one on 2nd near 50th? Because if it is then I was robbed! They don't have monkeys ANYWHERE!

I used to get lunch delivered from that one when I worked in the MetLife bldg. I think I only went there once. There's also one in the 80's ... but again, 34th Street are the only monkeys I've ever encountered.

And to think I lived 2 blocks away from the Monkeys for 4 years!!!!!!! and I never even knew! (wouldn't touch blockheads with a 10 foot pole, sorry )
